Whoa!
The Washington DC area is still buzzing
about Michel Martelly's unforgettable performance on September 9
in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Known to most as "Sweet Micky,"
know to others as "dirty," "nasty," "vagabond,"
but most would agree that a Sweet Micky concert is something that
you are not likely to forget.
Unforgettable is what promoter Harold
Charles of Ceepco Records owed and provided the Washington DC area
community. |
 |
The
last time Sweet Micky was in town, the show was plagued with technical
problems and power failures. Promoter Charles spent time apologizing
and promising that Micky would come back and redeem himself.
That Micky did. Micky stayed in town
for two shows, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's show, held at the
spacious Auditorio Borinquen, was packed to capacity, 600 to 700
screaming people. Sunday's show was held at the prestigious Zanzibar
nightclub in Washington DC, and that, according to Charles drew
on more than 200 people, and a more "respectable" show.
|
|
Micky's antics brought delight out of the
young crowd that came to see him. Being part of the hip hop generation,
Micky stripping to his underwear did not shock them, but some of
the older generation was gasping for air. |
|
Make no mistakes, a Sweet Micky show
is not just bétiz, a collection of dirty words, and
him stripping to his Calvin Kleins. Konpa té koulé
tout nan nwit, Micky dropped some good sound all night long.
|
With
a long list of albums and hits to choose from, Micky gave the crowd
a lot to dance and celebrate.
They realize who Michel Martelly is
and see beyond the showmanship. For many, the agenda was to have
a good time, listening and dancé Kolé to some
good Konpa. It had been a while, May, since Top Vice rocked
the area_no disrespect to Phanttom who came in August. |
|
This September 9th show more than made up
for the problems of a year ago. Like a master magician, Micky hypnotized
the crowd avêk bon Konpa. Surrounded by the
synthesizer and drum machine, he sang out songs like "Haiti
2000" and "Hommage a Coupé Cloué."
|

The fans of the older hits were not disappointed,
because Micky also dropped "ti madanm," and others. Six
hundred people singing "ou la la, ou ou la la" is an experience
that can't be forgotten. |
|
The buzz started at the beginning of the
summer, and no one wanted to miss the next act in the great concert
series of the Washington DC area. As much as people have different
opinions about him, but a Sweet Micky show is not to be missed.
|

Judging by the crowd's reaction when
the show ended at 3 o'clock, Micky left the audience wanting more,
and many went back for more on Sunday.
Michel Martelly, Sweet Micky, Vagabond, sal, call him what
you will, he is an Unforgettable Act.
