min Zin,
Min Zin, not the
the zin about Michael Jackson and little boys, or Puff Daddy and
Jennifer Lopez, the Zin, the Haitian ZIN.
Siro Miél, Sweet honey Zin.
Zin, the Haitian band
that blew up in the 90s, brought a new kind of sweet, intoxicatingly
sexy konpa to the world. Zin is mainly the sound of the talented
and gifted Georgy Métellus, and the equally talented Mr.
Alan Cavé, but Zin is also so much more. The rhythm can be
hypnotic like a Beres Hammond or Gregory Isaacs reggae groove, because
of some talented musicians, and a background singer, who compliments
the two lead singers very well, but is also a force of her own.
She's
a very good singer in her own right, and moved gracefully to the
music, while the band kept the beat ticking like clock work. All
together making a hard to beat combination in concert.
The group takes good advantage of their talent to make some
beautiful music. For the audience, the choices are more than they
are used to. Some chose to dance, others sat and listened, while
others just watched. Zin in concert,
if you're not taken by the music, you will surely be taken with
Georgy doing her own thing on the stage. She spent the whole night
performing with her eyes closed, and seemed to be in her own world.
Yet,
the music moved her like it moved the audience, and she danced as
if the music was coming from inside her. For "m'damou,"
Georgy seemed to be living the words, "karese'm, vini fè'm
dodo."
Alan, not to be outdone,
held his own by getting the crowd into the show. He was very charismatic
and charming, giving the ladies a show of their own. His voice as well as his style are perfect combinations for
Georgy and the rest of the band.
If everyone had gone home,
Georgy would still be dancing and singing. There are very few true
artist of that nature, who can capture an audience in that manner.

There have been
many rumors, tripotage, about the group and its members,
like any other band. No doubt Zin is extremely talented, and let's
hope they reachtheir full potential before the inevitable break
up. If that is their destinity, hopefully, we'll benefit with some
great solo acts, like Wyclef Jean, and Lauryn Hill of the Fugees.
