Since their first album“Si w Vle’m,” in 1998, Konpa Kreyol has been steadily climbing to stardom. With “ti Jo,” Joseph Zenny, on lead, along with “Stan,” Stanley Herisse, the group has been gaining supporters and fans from New York to Miami. The group’s recent stop to promote their latest album, “Sak Te Gen Tan Gen La,” provided the Washington, DC, area with a glimpse of the “nouvel jenerasyon” konpa.

Undoubtedly, one of the hardest things for the young group, formed in 1998, is to grow, especially under the bright unforgiving spotlight. Konpa Kreyol is a growing band, much like Tabou Combo, Zenglen, and T-Vice had to grow up and improve their konpa. The early success of the band shows that they are on the right track. The young fans who now follow them will undoubtedly, in time, judge them differently than today's older generation.

It’s hard not to compare the band with Carimi, or T-Vice, however, Konpa Kreyol is making a name for itself. Lakay Productions brought the band down to the beautiful Holiday Inn hotel one cold night in December. The room decorated with chandeliers provided a beautiful backdrop for a comfortable evening. Tables were set for those who wanted to just listen to the band for the first, but those who came to enjoy themselves filled the dance floor.

Although the show started late, the band quickly brought the crowd to their feet. “Ti Jo” handled the majority of the songs, as the accompanying musicians kept the beat steady. Konpa Kreyol is a band on its way to stardom, and with every step they gather more support from their fans.
