Ti Kabzy - Gwo Konpa

Oasis of Silver SpringYou could hear the konpa rhythm all the way down Georgia avenue. Lots of cars parked everywhere, and many people on the street trying to get into Oasis of Silver Spring. The night was warm, and the community was thirsty for a good time. Inside the club, there was a mixture of konpa, voices and laughter. Oasis was jumping and it was barely 11:30. The dance floor was packed. The tables were full, and people were standing at the bar, pale e kadanse. Ti Kabzy was on stage, ap bien mennen.

Ti Kabzy on stage. Most people didn't know what to expect from Ti Kabzy. Many had never heard of them, but the band from Canada was ready to leave a lasting impression. With the release of their third album, "Ti Kabzy Live, Plin...," they are making a serious push to the top and try to find their place among the best of konpa digital. On top of that lists are bands such as Top Vice, Michel "Sweet Micky" Marthelly, and T-Vice.

Jean Sebastien DupervalHowever, Ti Kabzy sees a big difference between their music and some of those bands. In an interview with Konpa Magazine they proclaimed, "if you listen closely to our lyrics, you will realize right away that our texts are much richer and much more profound. We don't only write about soft themes such as 'Gason Makome' for example."

PriscillaThe band started in 1989 when Dr. Raymond Duperval and his son, Jean-Sebastien, began playing together at local events in Canada. After a couple of years, because of professional obligations, Richard DupervalDr. Duperval was replaced by his oldest son, Richard Duperval. Later still, in 1995, Georges Nazie was added as lead guitar and chorus. The lovely, Priscilla was then added for background chorus. The group quickly built a reputation in Canada as one of the best bands, but they are now spreading their popularity across the United States.

Joe FortuneWith such hits as "si m'ale," and "soif de toi," the group is showing that it's not where you're from that matters. They are currently on tour and hope to drop their next album soon. They're working on their music in order to reach the level of popularity that T-Vice and Sweet Micky now hold. Ti Kabzy will not be able to escape the comparison to particularly T-Vice, since there are so many obvious similarities. However, the band is determine to make it on their own merit.
