while ago, at an award ceremony, Luc Bernard
of Lakay Productions, said, “kominote nou an ap vini.”
Our
Washington DC Haitian community is “coming up,” growing,
and improving, and in order for the community to grow and improve,
entertainment promoters like him must take risks and give the community
something new and different. With the help of one of the best, and
possibly the sexiest, konpa bands today, Bernard set out at a Lewies
Lounge to give the community something different.
“Se pa pou
dat,” we’ve been waiting for something this good,
a good location, a great sound system, and one of the best bands
in konpa. Over looking the crowd, with confidence and self-assurance,
Zin, with Alan, Alex, and other, dropped konpa on a jam-packed crowd.
With
fluid motion and total body control, not to forget beautiful harmony,
Daphney and Virginia mesmerized the crowd and left no doubt that
Zin came to party.
With
his poetic lyrics, and his playfully sensuous style, Alan Cave gives
a style unparalleled by any other group. His celebration of love
as in “fèm vole,” will make some of
the most timid women declare, without reservation, “yo
pou zin,”
With the fluidness
of baby snakes, Daphney and Virginia compliment Alan with angelic
harmonies, and remind the crowd that Haiti may lack many things
but does not lack beauty. “Medmwazèl?!, ay!, ay!,
ay!,” The row of men in front of the stage no doubts
want to scream, “wo y!, wo y!, wo y!.”
 Alex
Abellard on keyboards, not to be outdone, keeps the beat that holds
everything together. With the dance floor packed and everyone “toukole”
and slowing rocking to the rhythm of Alex’s fingers on the
keys.
Whether they’re
the sexiest group or not is debatable, but there’s no doubt
about Zin’s talents as entertainers. With a growing and demanding
Haitian community in the Washington area, promoters like Luc Bernard
are finding new ways to keep the American dollars in their community,
“filing sa a tèlman bèl, fòn pa kite
li ale.”
