WATTCH: Cultural Show '00

WATTCH
|
| On
Saturday, November 25, the Washington Association To Tend to the
Concerns of Haitians, WATTCH, put on a cultural show for Haitians
in the community, although many not present to support.
Whether it was the rainy
night that kept many away, or a lack of advertisement, many people
missed a fine performance by some very talented young ladies growing
up Haitian in America.
Troupe Lakaye Dancers,
made up of some preteen and teenage young ladies, gave a valiant
effort on stage and seemed to enjoy themselves, much to the delight
of their fans and parents in the audience. |
|
The show was emceed by Eugenia Charles, along
with Jean-Claude Eugene. Ms. Charles was designated as the English
speaker, while Mr. Eugene addressed the crowd in French. |

Mr. Eugene, a very talented man in the community,
delighted some in the crowd with his wit and his command of the
French tongue. However, one could notice that the young, who did
not share his knowledge of French , were left out. |

The crowd also had the pleasure
to hear Mr. Guy Robert Jean, a prestigious local artists who sang
songs of love and brought back, to some, memories of the old days.
|
|
One of the bright spots of the night, was
Manouchka Massillon. Through out the night she amazed the crowd
with some old favorites as well as more contemporary songs. |

Carole Bourcicot-Seaforth, president, of
WATTCH, presented some awards to some deserving members of the community.
Three interesting gentlemen and one beautiful and spiritual woman. |

Dr. Jean Charlot Charles
A physicians who donated his time during the WATTCH Annual Health
Fair. He is also actively involved in the organization.
|
|
Mme. Alvire Paul
For about 2 years, Mme. Paul taught
French to many of the children in the organization. She is very
loved by the children and she will be missed as she retires. |

Mr. Yves Cadelien
One of the few in the community who actively participate and support
the organization. Mr. Cadelien has had 3 daughters as members
in Troupe Lakaye Dancers. He also puts out the very popular newsletter,
TRAIT D'UNION.
|

Mr. John Black
"A friend of Haiti," as described by Carole,
Mr. Black taught English as a second language to the community.
He was raised in Haiti as a child and spent many years traveling
and teaching in English to many Haitians.
