including the Mother Lange project, and the Haitian Library
project. Yet, Pè Andre still finds time to work on
his PHD at Catholic University.

real name, but many know his talent as a cook.
Chez YonYon is more than just
a catering service, it is the pulse of the Haitian community
in the DC area. It is also the source of tickets for Haitian
bal. It is the place to find out all the latest news and events
going on in the area. It is also where friends gather to catch
up on old times.

STARZZ
This season lookout for the first Haitian
to play for the WNBA, Marie Ferdinand. She plays point guard
for the Utah Starzz, averages about 12 points per game, and
shoots almost 50% from the field.
As a senior in high school, she averaged 24 points, seven
rebounds 5.4 assists and two steals per game and was named
1997 Player of the Year in Florida.

lived with his wife in a rowhouse decorated with potted flowers
on the porch and tomatoes and bell peppers in a small garden.

MIAMI
(AP) -- Gwen Grant Mellon, who along with her husband started
a hospital in an impoverished part of Haiti in 1956, died
on November 29 from complications after hip surgery. She was
89.
Mellon and her husband, Dr. William Larimer Mellon Jr., helped
open the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in 1956 in Deschapelles,
Haiti, where she lived until her death. |
