Please dont blame Preval. Yes he did not do anything in 5 years, but
that was because Titid went into opposition mode when Preval would not let
him have his way. Midred sided with Preval and Titid publicly gave her the
back of his hand. Nice husband, nice guy.
Also dont forget Marc Bouzzin was a Minister under Duvalier, the PRIME MINISTER
for years under Cedras, and a Minister for Aristide.
I vote for Samir Moura as President. He is a very competent guy who really
wants what is good for Haiti. He is an Arab-Haitian who is light skinned
and fulfills the current Haitian people's feeling that they no longer want
"Neg noi pauve, ac ti zoreilles et bounda canelle"
Maybe he will take PR as PM!!
Enjoy

Gentlemen, in surfing your site this morning, I was blissfully
fiberized to have read that the first EchodHaiti.com’s Pozitiv Image Award,
which “seeks in a small way, to recognize those who are making or have made
an exemplary contribution in freeing our minds”, has been presented to Marx
Vilaire Aristide. Your choice could not be more deservedly judicious and
meritorious
At this tumultuous crossroad in human society where moral values, honor,
and profound ideological convictions are being superseded by greed, futility
and the insatiable voluptuous desire to exhibit, acquire and exert power,
it is delightedly comforting to notice that the capacity to both identify
and recognize goodness and generousness in human beings still exists.
Marx indeed, was the embodiment of compassion, conviction, stoicism, and
genuine political vision, whose selflessness and relentless struggle for
human rights, state of law, constitutional rule, democracy, rights to education
for all, and poverty eradication is surpassed only by his visceral love
for Haiti.
In all of our communities, he was a symbol of selfless humanity, a standard-bearer
for the rights of the voiceless; someone with a natural nobility and charisma.
One of the greatest tests of courage is to be able to credit and acknowledge
one’s peers. I would conclude by borrowing Alexis de Tocqueville’s courageous
thought «…a simple idea, but wrong, is easier to propagate than an idea,
which is true, but complex» Jean Jean and Ginau, you have elevated the bar.
Bon travail et mes admirations!

United States - 09/15/2005 at 11:05
(I thought I should share this with members of Echo in Washington,
a letter from Haitian presidential candidate Dumarsais Simeus. )
DUMARSAIS SIMÉUS
Good afternoon family and friends!
I hope this letter finds you well. As you all know, my campaign for President
of the Republic of Haiti has great broadbased support! Every day more people
support my message of change and hope for Haiti.
The politics of the last 200 years have failed. Haiti cries out for new
leadership and new ideas that will bring all Haitians together. We’ve had
the politics of division and hate, Haitian against Haitian…I want to be
the bridge to bring Haitians together, to build the Haitian dream based
on Haitian values…work, family, God and neighbors helping neighbors.
Those are the lessons I learned as a boy in the Artibonite Valley and those
are values that I will use to bring education, jobs, access to capital,
economic freedom, international recognition, and, perhaps most of all, pride
in our country. Together, we can bring loved ones in Haiti security from
violence and freedom from corruption so that our sons and daughters don’t
have to leave as economic refugees, but can build their dreams at home.
I am a Haitian. As are you, regardless of where we currently reside. And
like you, I carry our beautiful country with me wherever I go. That can
never be taken away and our citizenship can never be negotiated. Once Haitian,
we remain Haitian for life with all the rights to participate in the social
and economic opportunities of the country, including running for political
office.
We must support a fully democratic election process that values free competition
of ideas and gives all people an equal chance to run. If Haiti is to emerge
with a legitimate leader whom Haitians and the world community can feel
good about, then we must have an open and transparent election process with
a free exchange of ideas that allows the best candidate to win.
I can’t thank you enough for all of your support over the last days and
weeks. Each one of you is so important to this campaign. With your help,
we can change the future of our country and bring new hope to Haiti.
Right now, we need 100,000 signatures to ensure that I am on the ballot,
so please call home and tell your loved ones to support Haiti’s native son,
Dumarsais Siméus, and the changes I promise to bring.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally announce new key campaign
positions here in the US. May and Serge Parisein will now serve as media
spokespeople on my behalf when interview opportunities arise here in the
US where I am unable to participate. Gary Jean Baptiste is the new Grassroots
Director, handling, organizing and facilitating events and other Diaspora
efforts. And Joe Baptiste is working diligently as Fundraising Director
to raise much-needed funds for the campaign.
Thank you to each of the new campaign leaders, and to each of you. Your
ongoing support, advice and loyalty is the reason I am here, and I look
forward to working with you over the next few months to bring Haiti a new
President!
Sincerely,
Dumarsais Siméus

More Questions About Aristide's Telecom Deals
http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB112562834443929983,00.html?mod=opinion%5Fmain%5Ffeatured%5Fstories%5Fhs
By MARY ANASTASIA O'GRADY
September 2, 2005 Wall Street Journal
For more than a year now, New Jersey-based IDT Corp. has been denying any
wrongdoing involving the long-distance telephone contract it negotiated
with the former Haitian government of Jean Bertrand Aristide in 2003.
But new revelations that surfaced in a lawsuit against the company in Newark's
federal district court in July cast doubt on the company's claims of innocence.
If the evidence holds up in court, IDT could be in very hot water. The company
didn't return my calls asking for comments on the case.
The latest revelations also support allegations by the current interim government
in Haiti that Mr. Aristide -- beloved Haitian messiah of Washington's Congressional
Black Caucus and Joseph P. Kennedy II -- was extremely corrupt. Mr. Aristide,
who California Congresswoman Maxine Waters calls "a close friend," was dipping
quite liberally into the government till for his own personal gain, the
new evidence suggests.

Thank you Lavalasse movement for a job well done!!!!!!
As Far as we can see, the following are happening in 2005:
1) Surprising news from several people in Haiti about the popularity of
Carlito Baker as Presidential Candidate. The guy led Operation GNB to topple
Aristide and send him to exile. It seems the masses are all for him. Their
correct reasoning is that every time they put a poor black person in power,
their monies get stolen. This time they want a guy who is "rouge" and already
has money. They think that their monies will not be stolen. Light Bourgeoisie
back in power? They never left. Remember Mildred Aristide hired her people
for Palace Work.
2) another disturbing article reports that Gallup poll organiztion has declared
the murderer JC Duvalier to be the most popular leader of Haiti in the last
20 years.
This was the result of opinion polls of people inside Haiti. The article
is below.
3) So I want to personally thank EACH AND EVERY Lavalasse member for leading
us forward to a Haiti led by a rich and "rouge" Carlito Baker, or a return
of JC Duvalier.
Under the last 15 years of Lavalasse, Haiti has done nothing but progress.
You gave us 3 years of embargo, 2 Foreign occupations that will last another
10 years, and now a hatred of the masses for anyone black.
I know that you think that your jailed killer of Jacques Roche, the incomparable
Pere Jn Juste, will lead you to victory, but why cant you give up and go
away like the previous crazy priest in permanent exile in South Africa because
no one elase wants him?
Thank you Lavalasse for a wonderful 15 years of great leadership, of immeasurable
economic development, of improvement of the poor Haitian masses situation.
When all of you come back from the bamboche of the NY Carnival, THINK about
what 15 years of Lavalasse has accomplished on the groung in Haiti.

If I remember correctly, Jn-Claude left in early 1986. The
past 20 years would be 1985*2005, which would mean one year of Jean Claude,
several coup detats, and military rule.
I think Gallup needs to run that again.

interesting:
pauvre etc.….

AN OPEN LETTER
TO THE PRESIDENT
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
June 30, 2005
President George W. Bush
The White House
Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr. President:
We have read a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Haiti further reducing
the in-country personnel and sending them back home as a result of continued
and accelerating violence in Haiti. While all of us haitians and haitian-Americans
are very grateful to the United States for its repeated benevolent acts
towards Haiti, we are respectfully asking you once more for additional help
that only you can provide.
UN Peacekeeping Chief Jean-Marie Guehenno recently stated that parts of
Haiti are far worse than the violent conditions in Darfur, and that the
1,000 additional troops assigned to Haiti will be insufficient to solve
this crisis. United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has also stated
that only the presence of U.S. troops working side-by-side with the U.N.
will bring about peace and security.
We Haitians and haitian-Americans support the assertion of Mr. Kofi Annan
that only the direct intervention of the United States will stem the flow
of violence and bring about peace and security for all its citizens. As
you know, there are at least 6-10 kidnappings daily in the country and citizens
are living in a state of terrorism, full of fear and anxiety, afraid even
to drive their kids to school.
May I urge you Mr. President, on behalf of Haitians everywhere, to consider
direct action and help us provide security to our helpless brothers and
sisters in Haiti.
Respectfully yours,
Dumas Simeus

AN OPEN LETTER
TO DUMAS SIMEUS
OF REPRESENTACTION
June 7, 2005
Dumas M. Simeus
Chairman & Founder, Simeus Foods International, Inc. Co-Chair,
National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians Chairman,
PromoCapital USA, the Haitian-American Investment Bank
Dear Mr. Simeus:
It is with great consternation that I read your open letter dated June 30,
2005 asking the president of the United States of North
America, George W. Bush to consider sending U.S. troops to provide security
to our “helpless brothers and sisters” in Haiti. You also stated in your
letter that you are acting on “behalf of Haitianseverywhere”. Sir, it seems
to me that you still do not understand the
roots of the problems in Haiti.
First let me tell you that you have not spoken on my behalf. Second, part
of the problems of Haiti is and has always been the involvement of US policy
makers in the internal affairs of this Caribbean country. US policy makers
have never been interested in both the development of democracy in Haiti
and the well being of the Haitian
mass. They have yet to prove me wrong.
You either do not know the history of the US interventions in Haiti. Or
if you knew, you are simply ignoring it. In order to solve a problem, you
have to understand the roots of its causes.
Dumas Simeus, I emphatically repeat that the US Embassy is one of the major
causes of our problems in Haiti.
The majority of the Haitian people have made it clear that they want to
be included in the affairs of their country. They want to be
considered as real citizens of Haiti but not second class human beings.
They want access to health care, education, opportunities, freedom to express,
respect of their human rights, and especially respect for their rights to
choose their elected representatives.
U.S. marines have never come to Haiti to guarantee those rights and to further
advance those goals. Instead they always come to maintain the status quo,
a status quo that the majority of Haitians have repudiated and will never
accept. Furthermore, I would like to enumerate who those “helpless brothers
and sisters” are that you are asking protections for?
Nevertheless, I have not heard you lending
your voice to those denouncing the despicable, barbaric acts of human rights
violations (i.e. illegal and arbitrary arrests, prolonged detention without
any charge, summary executions, rapes, beatings by the Haitian police while
under arrest, etc) being committed by thecurrent de-facto Haitian government.
I would like to ask you if you are pleased with what is going on in the
popular neighborhoods in Haiti and are you going to send an open letter
to President Bush asking him to stop the bombings of innocent civilians
in Cite Soleil?
Today instead what we need is a new national and patriotic vision for the
country based on respect for one another without any outside interference
while recognizing the harm that has been done and still plaguing the society
to come up with a new consensus to make Haiti the country we all dream of.
You and I have had a chance to access
many opportunities in these United States of America. Otherwise, you and
I would have been among one of those fighting for those
opportunities and those rights denied to millions in today’s Haiti.
Let us not forget that. We do not need any more boots including north-american
to trample the aspirations and rights of the Haitian people.
Patriotically,
Jean Yves Point-du-Jour, Transportation Engineer Maryland, USA

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – A jailed Roman Catholic
priest says he is waiting for the backing of deposed leader Jean-Bertrand
Aristide before he decides to run for president in the fall.
The Rev. Gerard Jean-Juste, who has been in jail since July without charges,
has emerged as the most prominent member of Aristide's Lavalas Family movement,
which is still the most popular political faction in this troubled nation.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 2005--Battered by hurricanes, embroiled
in political turmoil, overrun by armed gangs, and largely ignored by the
international community, Haiti is trying, yet again, to embrace democracy.
As our hemisphere's poorest country attempts to organize for presidential
elections in November, some hardened veterans of its endless cycle of
uprisings and downfalls are trading guns for voter registration cards,
warily giving the election process their support, while followers of exiled
President Jean-Bertrand Aristide take to the streets in protest.
Through the unfettered access provided by Haitian-based journalists to
political strongmen, gangsters turned presidential hopefuls, and ordinary
citizens, WIDE ANGLE reveals life on Haiti's streets and among its power-brokers
as the country endeavors to fashion a true representative government out
of a volatile failed state.
Unfinished Country premieres Tuesday, September 6 at 9 p.m. (ET) on PBS
(check local listings).
WIDE ANGLE anchor Bill Moyers' post-film interview will explore nation-building
in Haiti with James Dobbins, director of the RAND International Security

the Clinton administration.

Since Trankil did not answer, let me say that I think that
the Rafreshi people are very childish and somehow that's getting a bad reflection
on the band.
Always whinning like bebe lala, and quick with defensive answers showing
their insecurity and lack of responsibility.
Let me also say that I know that you will blast me here under many different
pseudos like you always do.Well you may do so, but don't expect me to play

"community efforts" like the Trankil cd as well as your cd should be appreciated
regardless.
The reason I answer to your non sense is because what you are doing to Star

Why is it always Rafreshi attacking the others?
To finish,? you wrote that"depi Rafreshi fi'n fe cd ya toute mou'n gin foli.

Businessman returns to Haiti to run for president
By Danna Harman, The Christian Science Monitor
Dumarsais Siméus, the most successful Haitian-American businessman in the
United States, is going home to run for president of Haiti.
"I wanted my fellow native sons and daughters of the Artibonite Valley to
hear it from me first. ... I am a candidate for president of Haiti," Siméus,
the son of illiterate peasants, announced Wednesday in his rural hometown
of Pont-Sondé. "Today marks the start of a new beginning for our country
... in a time of crisis."
After months of speculation, the CEO of one of the largest black-owned businesses
in the USA told supporters he will start campaigning for the November election,
the first since Jean-Bertrand Aristide was ousted following a violent rebellion
in February 2004.
"Running a country like Haiti, which is broke and in bankruptcy, takes many
of the same skills as a successful businessman: leadership, knowing how
to pick the right people to work for you, knowing how to create jobs for
people," Siméus said in an interview.
"What a contender!" says James Morrell, director of the Haiti Democracy
Project in Washington. "Here is the richest and most successful Haitian
around — running to lead a country where nothing works. ... Here is evidence
of someone who can get things done."
But the hurdles ahead are many. Siméus has no political experience, no name
recognition and no party in Haiti. Then, there are the worsening problems
of the hemisphere's poorest nation: gang violence, kidnappings and other
crime now are such that it is unclear whether the elections will take place
this fall.
Even if the vote goes ahead, under the current interpretation of the Haitian
constitution, Siméus would be ineligible to run. Article 135 states a presidential
candidate must "be a native-born Haitian and never have renounced Haitian
nationality," and have resided in the country for five consecutive years
before the election.
Siméus, 65, has taken U.S. citizenship and has been living in the USA for
44 years. But he dismisses potential constitutional barriers. "I don't have
anything to overcome in terms of the constitution or getting on the ballot.
I never renounced my citizenship," he said. "I have been fortunate to have
other homes and other citizenships, but I never gave up my Haitian ones."
Siméus, a father of three, is a Howard University graduate with an MBA from
the University of Chicago. He has held management positions in companies
such as Atari, Rockwell International, Bendix and PromoCapital, the first
investment banking firm in Haiti. He served as CEO of TLC Beatrice Foods,
a $2 billion multinational conglomerate.
Today, he is CEO of Siméus Foods International, based in Mansfield, Texas,
the largest minority-owned businesses in that state, according to Black
Enterprise magazine. It does some $160 million in yearly sales to such customers
as Denny's, T.G.I. Friday's and Burger King.
He runs his own foundation, sending money to help poor communities in Haiti,
and he sits on Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's Haiti Task Force. His parents, who
once sold a plot of land to be able to send their eldest of 12 children
to college in the USA, still live in Haiti.
An estimated 2 million Haitians live in the USA, but significantly, they
cannot vote in Haiti. Siméus said he does not plan to put any of his own
money into his Haitian campaign, but will rely on friends in the USA, Canada,
France and Germany to help raise money.
"I am giving myself. My know-how, my desire to help and my patience," Siméus
said. "That will be my contribution."
An interim government and a 7,400-member multinational U.N. force has been
trying to keep order in Haiti since Aristide fled the country in 2004 and
lawlessness engulfed the capital. But Siméus said he believes he can begin
to change Haiti.
"We will create ... a country that can function properly and an environment
for investment," he said. "I want to be realistic about how long this turnaround
will take. It will take at least a generation, but within the first year,
change will start taking off. We will start the rebuilding process."

In recent years, Haitians have become an integral part of the West Indian
American Day Carnival in Brooklyn. Due to the sharp increase of our involvement,
a group of concerned Haitians have joined together to help strengthen and
bring Haitians as one collective unit to better represent Haiti at the West
Indians American Day Carnival.
Haitian Carnival Association (HCA) and the West Indian American Day Carnival
Association (WIADCA) have come together with a plan to help improve Haitian
representation at this year’s carnival.
It is agreed upon by WIADCA that any Haitian band or floats that wish to
partake in the Carnival, are advised to cooperate with HCA.
So far the Haitian bands that will participate this year officially are:
Kreyol La, Tvice, Koudjay, Sweet Micky and Djakout Mizik.
All participating bands with HCA and WIADCA have agreed that in order for
anyone to participate on the Parkway, one must either wear a costume or
a specific T-shirt. Next week, we will release the locations where you can
find costumes and T-shirts at a minimal price. T-shirts will be made available
in Boston, Miami, Canada, and the tri-state area, including our Mas camps
in Brooklyn. For the sake of unity, all bands have agreed to let their fans
wear one t-shirt with one theme, which is “Haitian Unity on the Parkway
2005”.
The New York City Police Department, HCA and WIADCA are working together
to ensure that we have an orderly plan of action for that day. We are asking
everyone to cooperate with us, as we try to make this year one of the best
Haitian participation for this 38th Annual West Indian Carnival on Eastern
Parkway.
We are working tirelessly so everyone will have a good time on Sept 5th.
For the first time we’ll have 5 top Haitian bands, together with beautiful
floats that will display our rich culture. We are looking forward to seeing
you on the Parkway.
If anyone wishes to participate or help as a volunteer, please feel free
to contact the above numbers.

FYI--HAITIAN BANDS TO TAKE THE PARKWAY WITH PRIDE...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haitian Carnival Association made of representative of: (Tvice, Micky, Djakout,
Koudjay and Kreyol La) and other concerned individuals and organizations
within the HMI and WIADCA had a very positive meeting yesterday. We had
a very fruitful discussion. We listened to their concerns and they listened
to ours, and we both came to the conclusion that we must work together to
make the Carnival much better.
At the end we agreed that all Haitian bands would participate with some
requirements. Haitian Carnival Association’s members will meet very soon
to come up with a press release of the rules and regulations and all the
positive things we are planning to achieve this year together with WIADCA.

civilian gangs are killing people with machete. Police has distributed machetes

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (Reuters) - A moderate faction of ousted Haitian
President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's party has registered for general elections
later this year, but it was unclear whether its radical members would participate.
The country's electoral officials also said on Tuesday that local government
elections, due to be held on October 9, would be postponed -- a sign of
the troubles that Haiti faces organizing a vote amid political and gang
violence that has killed some 900 people since September.
But officials refused to delay legislative and presidential elections in
November, which are seen by the United Nations as key to restoring democracy.
Aristide, a former priest credited with helping to end the Duvalier dictatorship,
was ousted in February 2004 by an armed revolt, facing growing accusations
of corruption and despotism and pressure from the United States and France
to quit.
But many of Haiti's poor masses still support him and the country has been
riven by violence since he fled, despite the presence of around 7,500 U.N.
peacekeepers and police.
A win by his Lavalas Family party could be embarrassing for Washington,
which spearheaded international opposition to Aristide. A victory would
open the way for Aristide to return to Haiti. ADVERTISEMENT
"We registered to participate in the election, which we will win, in order
to end the political persecutions, arbitrary arrests and detentions and
the summary executions our members and sympathizers have been subject to,"
Rudy Herivaux, a spokesman for the Lavalas faction, said.
"It would have been totally absurd of us to refuse to participate in an
election we can win," Herivaux told Reuters, saying victory would allow
for the return of all political exiles, including Aristide, who is in South
Africa.
Members of the moderate faction within Lavalas, led by former senator Yvon
Feuille and others, said the decision to run in the election was not unanimous.
But they are in discussion with more radical factions of Lavalas that have
refused to participate unless Aristide is allowed to return.
Leaders of the radical group within Lavalas said they would meet on Wednesday
to decide their position.
U.N. representative Juan Gabriel Valdes welcomed the decision for the Lavalas
to run, and warned that any attempt to prevent anyone from participating
in the elections would not be tolerated.
The legislative and presidential elections are set for November 13, with
a runoff on December 18.
According to the latest figures released by the Electoral Council, 1.7 million
out of Haiti's 4.5 million eligible voters have registered for the elections.
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - The United States will provide Haitian police with
firearms and tear gas to aid the fight against militants ahead of elections
this fall, the American ambassador said Friday.
The shipment is an exception to the arms embargo that the United States
imposed on the Caribbean nation in 1991, U.S. Ambassador James Foley said.
"Given the state of insecurity in this country, the attempts to create chaos,
we had to do our best to protect the people from the forces of insecurity
and criminality," Foley said.
U.S. officials previously acknowledged giving 2,600 used firearms to the
Haitian National Police last year to help re-equip and professionalize the
force.
Haitian officials have claimed that police are outgunned by gangs and militants,
some of whom are loyal to ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Human
rights groups, however, have alleged that the force is corrupt and brutal
and responsible for unjustified killings.
Foley did not specify the arrival date for the $1.9 million shipment, which
officials said will include some 3,000 handguns, several hundred rifles
and tear gas.
The United States imposed the embargo in 1991 when Aristide was overthrown
the first time.
Aristide pleaded to have the embargo lifted after 20,000 U.S. troops returned
him to power in 1994. But U.S. officials cited the police force's links
to cocaine trafficking and the slaying of government opponents - charges
still made by human rights groups.
Violence and kidnappings are a constant threat in Haiti, undermining efforts
to organize the elections in October and November to replace the interim
government that was put in place after an armed rebellion toppled Aristide
in February 2004.

It is quite sad that each time I check this iste I find people
posting articles which by the way could be bias, not reflective of what
is actually going on in Haiti. How come they cannot have their own judgement
to stimulate a respectful discussion on the topic or their point of view
instead of hiding behind an article. You can be a macoute, de-facto, lavalas,
so-called bourgeois (I don't know if what we have in Haiti can call themselves
"bourgeois" when one looks at Haiti), Group 184, group 24, group 12 or Group

Aucun secteur n'a intérêt à utiliser

How Aristide & Co. plundered the Haitian Treasury
Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2005 10:54:02 -0400
PAR JEAN CLAUDE JASMIN
How Aristide & Co. plundered the Haitian Treasury; Dark clouds on the Alexandre-Latortue
government
The publication this week of the preliminary findings of the "Commission
d'Enquête Administrative" (CEA), headed by former Senator Paul Denis, has
uncovered a disturbing pattern of systematic looting of
the Treasury during the Jean-Bertrand Aristide presidency. We can only salute
what is probably a first in Haitian history:
a) the commission did its work in secrecy and there were no leaks until
the publication of the preliminary report;
b) the quality of the investigation is extremely good;
c) the report includes TRANSCRIPTS of key interviews with a number of former
high level Lavalas dignitaries (probably a first in Haitian history)
d) the report also includes copies of correspondence, extensive documentation
of financial shenanigans, etc.
What is striking to any observer is the sheer magnitude of the embezzlement
concocted by Aristide and his cronies and the large number of individuals
involved, starting with Aristide himself. Former Lavalas congressmen, ministers,
and a number of Aristide relatives as well as businessmen figure on the
long list of beneficiaries and/or thieves.
Coming on the heels of the UCREF report on the embezzlement at the Aristide
Foundation for Democracy and a number of associated shell companies, a clearer
picture of the
Aristide-directed looting of public funds has emerged.
Readers can access key elements of the report (in French) at the following
websites:
http://www.ntsnews.com/bpm/commission_enquete.htm
http://www.ntsnews.com/bpm/commission_enquete_part_II.htm
http://www.ntsnews.com/bpm/commission_enquete_part_III.htm
http://www.ntsnews.com/bpm/commission_enquete_contrats.htm
The reports speak for themselves. I would like to draw your attention to
a number of intriguing points:
Cooperation of Yvon Neptune
In what is sure to be a shock for many, former Prime Minister Yvon Neptune
agreed to answer the questions of the investigators. And what an interview
that was! We learn that:
1. Yvon Neptune had no real power as prime minister; he was deathly afraid
of Finance Minister Faubert Gustave who was, in his words, a "super-minister"
and who called the shots on all expenses, legitimate or illegal, that were
undertaken on behalf of Aristide;
2. Neptune recognizes that Oriel Jean, Aristide's former security chief
now in custody in the US on charges of drug smuggling, was receiving donations
routinely from the Prime Minister's office "on the basis of his needs" (Neptune's
own words.)
3. The much touted "Alpha Economique" plan of Aristide existed in name only.
The interview reveals that Neptune was certainly not the administrator that
he was cracked up to be. We discover an average to below-average manager
of people who had some integrity (let's call a spade a spade) but who certainly
decided to roll over and let Aristide run roughshod over him. Quite a pitiful
interview in the end as it demonstrated that Neptune was completely out
of his league and should have remained the
good architect that he was.
While Aristide is in South Africa enjoying
his millions and managing his little guerilla warfare, poor Neptune is left
holding the bag.
Cooperation of Jean-Jacques Valentin
Another shocker! For many years, Jean-Jacques Valentin was Aristide's man
at Customs, where he oversaw a large bureaucracy which received the majority
of the government's revenues. Valentin described very eloquently the pattern
of embezzlement and deceit that Aristide and Faubert Gustave established
to get around
administrative procedures and help their cronies circumvent customs duties.
Two of the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme were none other than Lesly
Lavelanet, brother-in-law of Aristide, who owes Customs over
US$1 million in unpaid customs duties and Dieuseul Tchokanté Joseph, a staples
importer, who became a front man for Lavelanet as well as other rice importers
associated to Aristide.
Finally, we must stress that the publication of this preliminary report
has ruffled many feathers within the Alexandre-Latortue government.
Paul Denis stated that he received minimal cooperation from the National
Palace. That is not surprising at all. The current
chief of staff, Michel Brunache, has close links with Gladys Lauture, a
former "economic advisor" to Aristide who masterminded a number of embezzlement
schemes. Brunache has actually blocked the investigations into the practices
at the Palace for two reasons:
1. to protect Gladys Lauture, and by extension Brunache's former boss, attorney
Gary Lissade, who is also implicated in a number of sordid schemes in the
CEA/Paul Denis report;
2. to prevent investigators from uncovering Brunache's embezzlement scheme
for the benefit of his father-in-law, Boniface Alexandre, and his own pockets
of course. Brunache has continued the practice first
established by Aristide at the National Palace, which calls for minimal
supervision and documentation (if at all) of expeditures. We must be vigilant.
Aristide is the past, and we need to expose him for
what he was: a vulgar, blood-thirsty criminal who used the poor of Haiti
to wage his war of hatred and enrich himself at the same time. But we also
need to focus on the present and start investigating the crooked deals of
the current administration. There are a few, and they are being perpetrated
by people close to the current President and
Prime Minister.
We must also start asking the hard questions:
1. Why is Mr. Latortue's district attoney ("commissaire du gouvernment")
so weak and ineffctive?
2. Why are the current "managers" of the National Palace and Teleco blocking
the Paul Denis/CEA investigation?
3. When will Latortue get rid of the bad apples that are completely spoiling
his current leadership? Or is he involved?
Haiti needs new leadership and a new beginning. The truth will set us all
free ... finally.

pauvre

Gineau,
I was want to tell you that "Profonds Regrets" is a movie that will take
the Haitian Cinema to another level. It is the most expensive one by far,
well-written, and well-directed, hosting stars from Canada, Haiti, Florida,
Maryland.
Last weekend I was in Miami, Florida for 6 showings 2 Friday, 2 Saturday,
2 Sunday. It was something totally different than Maryland. Sunday night
shows were packed to the max. People had to stand. Some people came to see
the movie several times. I guess most people came to see RAFRECHI cameo
role in the movie (Joke!!!).
Seriously, Maryland will have a chance to see her and some other female
stars in the movie before the end of the year where we will gather more
people to give her something special in the name of the community. Keep
hope alive.
I am out! Keep on doing such a positive job for the community.

Journalist Michaëlle Jean to be new Governor General
Journalist Michaëlle Jean to be new Governor General
Last Updated Thu, 04 Aug 2005 08:35:16 EDT
CBC News
Prime Minister Paul Martin on Thursday will officially name journalist Michaëlle
Jean as Canada's next governor general.
INDEPTH: Governor General
Michaëlle Jean (CBC Photo)
The official announcement is expected to come at 11 a.m. EDT in Ottawa.
Jean will be installed as Canada's 27th governor general Oct. 1.
At 48 years old, the award-winning journalist will become one of the youngest
governors general ever, the third woman in the job and the first black person
to call Rideau Hall home.
Jean's name surfaced after weeks of rumours about who would be replacing
the current Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson, who took up the post in 1999 and
who is stepping down this fall.
Jean is probably best known to English-Canadians as the host of The Passionate
Eye and Rough Cuts on CBC Newsworld.
She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She left in 1968, her family fleeing
the oppressive regime of François "Papa Doc" Duvalier, settling in Quebec
with her family.
She has a six-year-old daughter whom she adopted from Haiti, and she is
married to filmmaker Jean-Daniel Lafond. As well, she is fluent in five
languages: French, English, Spanish, Italian and Haitian Creole.
Her television career began in Quebec, where she has worked as a journalist,
producer and host for the CBC's French language services, SRC and RDI, since
1988.
She has worked as a correspondent for Le Point, hosted Le Monde ce soir,
L'Edition quebecoise, Horizons francophones, le Journal RDI and RDI à l'écoute.
Currently she is host of the French-language documentary series Grands Reportages.
In an interview with CBC Radio in 2001, Jean spoke of how she sees her role
in the public eye, especially as a role model for children.
"Being a black journalist on TV – for many black children and Asian children
and, I say, even native children – it's a symbol because when they see me
they say, 'OK, something is possible,'" she said.
Jean has received many awards for her own documentary work, including the
Amnesty International Journalism Award, the Anik Prize and the Galaxi Award
for best information program host.
"It's obviously a very exciting appointment. Here's someone who's quite
young, very dynamic, has a rapport with a lot of younger audience," said
Paul Benoit of the Monarchist League of Canada.
Historian David Mitchell says Jean will play an important role, at a critical
time in Canada's history.
"She will be a voice for Canada in Quebec and she will represent the new
Quebec to the rest of Canada very effectively. She has that potential and
that sense, this is an inspired choice."

Thanks L for the info.
We (WACAHAPA) used to face the same problem with the D.C Trinis.
We had to flexxxx our muscles and raise our voices to make them understand
that the parade is not a Trinadadian parade but a caribbean parade.
The Haitians and Jamaicans in N.Y will have to do the same - continue to
fight to let the Trinis know that they can't force their culture on OTHERS.
The day (LABOR DAY)is a day for the people of the Caribbean to party in
the street any which way they want to represent their own nation.
It's not Trinidad's Day,and the Trinis know that.
The requests to use the streets of N.Y or the street of D.C are granted
by the cities in the name of the Caribbean, not in the name of a country
in particular.
In our culture since the time of Nemous-Sicot(or may be before)fans wear
their band's favorite colors and follow the truck.
In the Diaspora we Haitians like to wear our Red and Blue-EPI THAT'S IT.
I would like to see how they going to stop 100.000 Haitians on Eastern Parkway
following SWEET MIKEY,DJAKOUT,T.VICE AND THIS YEAR KOUDJAY.
What the Trinis are affraid of is the fact that more and more they are being
out numbered.

The feathers are already flying at the West Indian-American Day Carnival
Parade and it's not even Labor Day.
The splashy Brooklyn event has banned marchers who aren't in costumes, the
Daily News has learned.
That means virtually no Jamaicans, Haitians or Barbadians - who usually
are represented by their country's top musical artists - will have a showcase
on Eastern Parkway, critics of the new rules contend.
The organizers, many of whom are Trinidadians, say that the annual technicolor
show is getting drab with all the "T-shirt bands" - revelers in T-shirts
and regular clothes who follow flatbed trucks carrying musicians.
"It seems as if they're trying to weed out a lot of people. They're eliminating
Jamaica and Haiti and other countries that don't see it as a costume event,
but as a music-driven event," said Robert (Bobby) Clarke, president and
CEO of Irie Jam radio station WTRN (93.5 FM).
But Jean Alexander, a spokeswoman for the West Indian-American Day Carnival
Association, which organizes the annual Labor Day event, said there is no
attempt to keep anyone out.
"We've been telling people this for the last three years, but they have
never listened. The noncostumed bands have overtaken the carnival. It has
destroyed carnival and we're through talking," Alexander said. "This rule
is not meant to exclude, it is just forcing people to go back to their roots."
Millions of people gather annually for the celebration of West Indian culture.
Many plunk down hundreds of dollars for elaborate costumes of sequins and
feathers to be part of an organized procession, called Mas bands. But others
just find their favorite bands and join the march, following the truck in
street clothes.
"I respect them [the organizers], but at the same token they are being insensitive
to the people who don't have the traditional aspect of costume," said Irwine
Clare, an activist in the Jamaican community.

Le rapport De Paul Denis,,,Si gen yon neg ke yon moun dwe

Sepandan ann fe yon kout je sou Paul Denis. Ansyen Senate de larepiblik

job saa, li ta dwe di:"mezanmi mwen pa kwe ke mwen kab fe yon anket serye
sou yon administrasyon ke mwen rayi avek pasyon." Depi li pat fe saa, tout
moun te ka konprann ansyen senate ya tap selman jwe wol "bay mimi veye makou."
Vwalatilpa ke se neg saa pwemye minis defacto wa al chwazi pou ankete sou
gouvenman Lavalas la. Latortue se yon pesonaj mesken, yon idividi ki tre
mechan dan làm, yon moun ki iresponsab lan ajisman-l si-l ka we se Paul
Denis pou-l mete lan plas silaa. Si-l te onet, li ta tyeke ak "Cour Superieure

Serge,
I think is safe to say that we unanimously condemn this massacre. But they
facing a difficult situation. Fighting an unseen enemy that is deliberately
using an over-populated area and endangering the lives of innocent people
as strategy is though business.
But I strongly as I feel about the Minustah's unprofesionalism, I feel equaly
disgusted with the lavalss party pushing this mishap to advance their agenda.
Let's be clear about this: this a not a Lavalas persecution! This is an
unfortunate situation resulting from a combination of a group of thugs using
humans as sheilds and a group of trigger happy police force.

Indeed, PR, let us see how the so-called investigation about Jacques
Roches' assassination evolved. I have to say "so-called" because there are
already are so many irregularities about the arrest of Father Jean-Juste.
First of all, the polie says taht he was arrested because of the "public
clamor", a complete twisting of the concept. Secondly, since when does the
police arrest someone first, then declare an investigation. Thirdly, the
Ministre of Justice sais that he did not even know when Jean-Juste was being
arrested, nor the reason why he was arrested. Fourthly, isn't it interesting
that as soon as roches was killed, members of the Gvt. immediately accused
Lavalas of being responsible, as if everything was choregraphed. I am really
looking forward to the "conclusion "of this "investigation" so that the
guilty, whoever he or she (or they) may be, can be brought to justice

Peacekeepers accused after killings in Haiti

Evidence is mounting that United Nations peacekeepers shot and killed unarmed
civilians, including children, during a recent raid in Haiti. The UN said
it was ready to investigate the alleged 'use of unnecessary force'.
Independent witnesses say up to 23 people were killed during the raid and
that many were shot in the head. Video footage seen by The Independent shows
the bodies of many killed in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and contains testimony
from witnesses claiming the victims were killed by 'blue helmets' common
parlance for UN peacekeepers.
In a statement, the UN Mission in Haiti (Minustah) said: '[UN forces] did
not target civilians in the operation ... but the nature of such missions
in densely populated urban areas is such that there is always a risk of
civilian casualties. Minustah deeply regrets any injuries or loss of life
during its operation.'
Yesterday, the most senior UN peacekeeping official appealed to the Security
Council for specialised troops for Haiti admitting the forces available
were not trained for such raids.
The footage of the aftermath of the 6 July raid in the Cité Soleil slum
was taken by a team led by Haitian-based journalist Kevin Pina. Pina said:
' Numerous witnesses said the victims were killed by UN forces the Haitian
National Police (HNP) were not even there. I think the fact the UN did not
bring a single doctor or ambulance with them on this mission is extraordinary
surely you would do that whether you were targeting criminal gangs or
civilians? It is interesting that so many victims were shot in the head.
I think the reason they did not bring ambulances is that they were not shooting
to wound, they were shooting to kill.'
The raid took place against a backdrop of violence in Haiti ahead of autumn
elections. Authorities say much of the violence is perpetrated by criminal
gangs with links to the former president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
But since the ousting of the democratically elected Mr Aristide last year,
human rights groups have detailed repression of his supporters by the US-backed
interim government and the HNP. A report by the human rights programme at
Harvard Law School said there were also 'credible allegations of human rights
abuses perpetrated by Minustah'.
Minustah said its dawn raid, involving more than 400 troops, targeted the
gang leader known as 'Dread Wilme', who is accused of murder and kidnapping.
He and four alleged associates were killed.
But other independent witnesses support Pina's evidence that civilians werealso
killed. David Welsh, of the US Labour/Human Rights Delegation to Haiti,
was at a conference in Port-au-Prince that weekend. Delegation members interviewed
witnesses and filmed the bodies of victims. He described the shooting as
a "massacre": 'Based on witnesses' testimony and the number of bodies we
were able to confirm, we believe that at least 23 people were killed,' he
said.
Among the dead were four-year-old Stanley Romelus, who was shot in the head;
his mother, Sonia, and his one-year-old brother, Nelson. The boy's father
said they were killed in their house after UN forces threw smoke grenades.
His testimony is to be included in a documentary Pina is producing based
on the footage.
Christophe Fournier, Médecins Sans Frontières, which has a clinic close
to Cité Soleil, said: "On that day we treated 27 people for gunshot wounds.
Of them, around 20 were women under the age of 18."
Minustah claims it received 'unconfirmed information' that criminal gangs
were seen killing civilians after its operation. It said: " Subsequently,
these elements attributed these atrocious acts to Minustah."
At UN headquarters yesterday, Jean-Marie Guehenno, undersecretary-general
for peacekeeping, asked for specialist troops for Haiti. 'I have to acknowledge
the forces we have do not have the kind of very specialised capacity ...
that makes absolutely sure that there will be zero civilian casualties in
a densely populated environment.'

Freind,
Latortue deserves all the flacks he his getting over this debacle. He decided
to stay true to his name, a slow moving individual, and it is reflecting
his government. He took too long to properly address these hoodlums carrying
out the crimes and those issuing the orders. In all fairness I dont think
he is responsible for the actions of "Operation Baghdad" operatives, but
he responsible for letting it get to this magnitute. He should have turned
down the job if he knew he did not have the stomach for it. Haitian leaders
don't see the high seat as a crucial job, rather as position to savor perquisites.
This cycle has to end.
Another factor is the constant harasement from the lobbyers and lobbied:
Waters, Goodman, Ira, ect.
Rumors have it that current and ongoing investigation is pointing fingers
at Jean-Juste and Delva as possible authors of the death of Jacques Roche.
Let's see how things unfold.
PR
United States - 07/30/2005 at 11:01
PR,
EWhat I am talking about is not shenanigan. Not at all. It is a matter of
an experienced force from the UN with a mandate to maintain the peace and
instead, coming in with brutal, indiscriminate force and creating unproportionned
death in a community. This is what the problem is. The UN has been in Kosovo,
in East Timor etc, where they have faced far, far more firepower and far
more difficult situations. My point is that it has enough experience to
know what it was getting into, study the situation and use approriate force.
It is evident that it did not, becasue, as I said, it is only NOW looking
at the possibility of bringing special forces to deal with this specific
type of situations. In other words, where it not for the pictures and videos
of Kevein Piña, the information might not have gotten out. My point is that
innocent people are getting killed when many deaths couls have been avoided.
Friend, I do not remember saying what you suggested in terms of bringing
down the walls. I totally agree that there are gangs in Cité Soleil, SOlino
etc and that they have to be dealt with. My problem is , and that is what
you and PR do not want to acknowledge, is that many defenseless human beings
are killed for no reason at all.
Finally two things I will leave with. Food for thoughts.
Have you ever wondered why you have not heard anything about attempts by
the UN forces to get those gang leaders alive? Labanyè, Dread Wilme, Ravix
and so on. No discussion at all about whether anyone could have been caught
alive. What a walth of information we could have learnt about what is going
on, who else is involved, where are the hiding places, where do they get
their weapons, the number of accomplices etc. etc.
Secondly, about the so-called Operation Baghdad. Interesting that no one
talks about this anymore. The very first person to talk about it when no
gang was talking about it was Jean-Claude Bajeux. Where did he get the name,
no one knows to this day. The second person to refer to it was Latortue
as he returned from a trip abroad. When the 4 policemen bodies were found,
beheaded, a group of people, journalists and others asked the Gvt. for an
autopsy to determine the circumstances of the beheadings. They even offered
to pay for the expenses. The Gvt. refused and...cremated the bodies. Very
strange. So we will never really know who had done the beheading, since
no investigation as ever conducted and the evidence now went up in smoke...

PR,
This is exactly what I am trying to convey to Serge. The Police and UN are
understandably nervous, therefore, you have a combination for maybe unecessary
use of force. The notion that Serge advanced that the Police and UN troops
could have kicked the walls down makes no sense. Serge, do you want the
PNH to kick the walls down and face with a guy holding a gun? You and I
would not do it, why do you want someone else to do it. What I meant by
operate on their private part is that some guys who are in jail have been
interviewed. The journalists found out these people inserted foreign object
in the pennis, so that when they rape a woman, they can cause more damage.
You can check the news and find out for yourself.

Friend,
It is far too simple to characterize the action of the UN as a reaction
from what people wanted. It is equally too simple to say that my aim was
to show that the UN wanted to assassinate the population. Come on!. The
UN got a mandate from the Security Council to maintain the peace. This is
the title of the UN mission in Haiti. It should have acted on this from
the very beginnning, and if it had, there would not have been such deterioration
of the situation. Now, why it did not is another issue which would require
much more pofound analysis and access to documents which, of course, are
not available. So let us be clear: what I said is that the UN, in using
force indiscriminately, caused the deaths of many innocent civilians who
did not have to die.
How many people died? The UN says 5. Médecins sans frontières, a humanitarian
insitution in Haiti reported receiving 27 people. Witnesses say that at
least 50 people died. So this is not my opinion, I was not present. That
is quite a bit, right?
By the way, I see that, like many other Haitians, you accuse the "Lavalasse[?]
people" of terrorizing the population? I never knew they were so organized
as to terrorize nearly 8 million people. even in Iraq, the insurgents are
not this powerful.
"These people are so bad that they even operated on their private parts
to hurt women".I am not quite sure of what you mean by this.
As far as your question about how these people were killed, even though
I am not an expert, I can tell you the following.
Often in mass demonstrations here, the POlice is asked to shoot to disable,
not to kill. This means they will shoot at the legs. In Cité Soleil and
other areas, the Dvd shows quite a few bodies, their brains spilling on
the ground, obviously shot in the head. And all the bodies showed the same
thing: a gunshot to the head. I remember in Cité Soleil this guy crying
because his wife and 2 kids had been shot by the UN forces . You will agree
with me that these people were not hiolding guns and were not shooting at
the soldiers. And this is frustrating part. The people themselves say that
this brutality was not necessary, was uncalled for. SO if you want to learn
more, yo need to see the DVD, that is all I can tell you.
I understand very well that the UN Forces have to react; that is why they
were sent to Haiti in the first place. What is not acceptable is the blind
force it uses , like a hammer to kille an ant..NO wonder then the UN itself
is looking for specialised forces to deal with this situation.

That is a very good question. Are we in Iraq, Serge?" You should ask the
conceivers of "Operation Baghdad" that question.
Friend, I know you're able to see through this latest shenanigan. What have
here is a classic police brutality case. Nervous, ill-trained police officers
using excessive force in over-populated area. All the ingredients to cook
up a serious disaster. But not a Lavalas hunt. They are using Pena's recordings
to say that Lavalas sympathizers are being killed. They are trying to equate
poor greiving people to Lavalas to push their agenda. They are still milking
poor folks for everything. This is almost good as Rove's plan in reelecting
Bush Jr. using 9/11.

Serge,
I do not know if you remember about six months ago I wrote that Latortue
will need to take special actions to control the situation in Haiti. This
is what he is now doing. Also, the UN did not take any action against the
gangsters until the population started to get tired of the military not
doing anything about the situation. Infact, they called the UN turista.
Therefore, your point that is aimed to show that the UN wants to assassinate
the population cannot hold. They were practcally forced to do something
about the criminals who claimed the Cite. You talked about the UN shooting
at people indiscriminately, how many people in your opinion got killed in
the raid? Remember Cite Soleil is a very populated area, if the UN wanted
to kill people just for killing them, we could easily endup with two to
three hundreds of dead people. In addition, if the situation deteriorated
to that point this is because of the lavalasse people who decided to terrorize
the population. They have to pay for what they are doing. I feel bad about
any innocent person who got killed. But as far as Dread Wilme and the RatPKK,
they all need to be killed in public places. They have caused haiti to know
unprecendented actions. These people are so bad that they even operated
on their private parts to hurt women. This is unheard of. The UN may need
to rethink their approach, but by all means, the UN needs to put an end
to this situation NO MATTER what they have to do with these criminals. By
the way can you explain why the tape did not show how most people got killed?
Could it be that they got killed while shooting at the UN troops and the
police. I reming you that the police and UN troops have the obligation to
protect themselves also. You see, until these facts are known, we cannot
talk about massacre.
Friend
Columbia, MD United States - 07/29/2005 at 20:48
Stan, if there is anything to be mad about, it is the number of people
being killed unecessarily. That is my point. What I am saying, and you miss
the point totally, the disucssion should not be about how many people attended
an event, because between that and innocent people being killed, I believe
you would agree that the human cost is more important.
Now, I understand that different people have different priority. If you
want to ne stuck on number, that is certainly your prerogative, but not
mine. SO I will not discuss that. But Yves can speak for himself, but I
will disagree with you when you "the way Yves made it to be on his show".
He did not and I say that not to come to his defense, but because I SAW
the evidence and Kevin Piña certainly did not not doctor the images, nor
put words in the mouth of those witnesses. It comes down to one thing: go
see for yourself, do not take anyone's word for it, the facts are there,
undeniable facts.
Now Friend, indeed, when there is military action, innocent people get killed.
But obviosly, in this particular case, you did not see the film, otherwise
you would understant what I am saying. You must know about the concept of
the use of proportional force to solve a problem. One way many innocent
people were killed in Cité Soleil (where, by the way, the house walls are
so flimsy that a solid kick can put them down)was when soldiers shot INDISCRIMINATELY,
with bullets going through these walls and killing 4 year old, 19 month
old, older people. A pastor was killed in his church some time ago. Why
do helicopters had to fire from above indiscriminately? Are we in Iraq,
where those guys have rocket launchers?
For your information, the UN has said that it is seeking specialised forces
to conduct the kind of operations required in areas like Cité Soleil, SOlino
etc. That is what it should have done in the beginning, so as to minimize
as much as possible innocent casualties. No one disputes the facts that
there are people committing these acts in Cité Soleil and other areas, no
one. But yes, many question those ruthless tactics, including Amnisty International.
Cité Soleil, Martissant, Solino, Bel-Air etc are not populated only by "Dread
and his cronies". The population of these areas is estimated (and this is
only an estimation) at 800 000 people. Are you saying that they are all
"Dread and his cronies"? Where is the fanatism in my statement? It is time
to stop playing the ostrich and open your eyes and mind to the global picture
of what is happening in Haiti. We are on the verge (some will say we are
already in it) of the rise of fascism in Haiti and you and I will both be
victims. In fact, we are already victims: go to Haiti now, try to go to
a bank and withdraw money, try to enter into some financial transaction,
try to obtain a passport and what will you get? Zip. Nada...unless you have
your electoral card. Haitians without it will become non-persons. That is
where we are. Do not tell me that this is fanatism, go check the facts for
yourself. It pays to know the facts.
Serge
By the way, both you and Stan should read the latest Amnisty Report on Haiti.
They might be interesting information.

You wrote the following: Meanwhile what you are doing may seem smart, but
I am not buying into it. By getting people stuck on how many people were
or were not there, you divert the discussion from the main issue: that is
that there is a human tragedy going on right now. That is what Kevin Piña
has carefully documented. (By the way he lives in Haiti, he has a Haitian
wife and a kid, meaning that his life and that of his family are constantly
in danger".
I understand when there is a military operation there are lot of opportunities
to have collateral damages. This fact may be unfortunate, but it is a consequence
of taking military actions. In the meanwhile, what do you suggest that the
PNH and the military troops in Haiti do when they face the acts of terrorism
being committed in Haiti? Remember, we need solution to a very bad problem.
Saying that the PNH killed people does not change the fact that some of
the people of Cite Soleil are committing acts of terrorism.
Friend

columbia, md, MD United States - 07/29/2005 at 12:06
Stan, I do not wish to enter into a polemic into the numbers. What you
are doing is fairly typical of too many of my compatriots: they do not have
the facts, but they will argue on false hypothesis and go on and on. You
were not there, the least you could do is not talk about facts you do not
know.
Meanwhile what you are doing may seem smart, but I am not buying into it.
By getting people stuck on how many people were or were not there, you divert
the discussion from the main issue: that is that there is a human tragedy
going on right now. That is what Kevin Piña has carefully documented. (By
the way he lives in Haiti, he has a Haitian wife and a kid, meaning that
his life and that of his family are constantly in danger.)
Poor people are getting savagely killed by powerful weapons, the only reason
being that they live in a area perceived as being pro-Lavalas. Young kids,
as I said, 4 years, 19 months, 12, 10 years old, women, young girls, a blind
man, are having their houses destroyed; helicopters are shooting from the
sky, like in Iraq. THIS is what is important to talk about, not how many
people were there. Even if there were only 5 people present, each one of
them could tell 10 others and that is how the words come out, because the
main press, and people like you will play the ostrich, bury their heads
into the sand and not talk about it. (By the way, as far as I could tell,
I was the only one there to have brought 2 members of my family. So your
comments about the presence of relatives being present as fillers were totally
out place.)
Facts speak for themselves; the documentation is there and any attempt to
cover them up will fail in the long run.
In short, let us stop talking about numbers, about personalities, and let
us address the real issues that are that there is a systematic attempt on
the part of a group of politicians and intellectuals along with their international
allies to silence a large portion of the population of Haiti, and not only
for political reason, but for social reasons as well, if you understand
what I mean.

Serge,Thanks for proving my point.
I never said that I attended the viewing, so therefore only suggested that
I could guest how many "supporters" were there. By you account I was right.
You listed about a dozen so called organizations, in other words "pro activists,"
people who get paid or are looking to be paid to be there. You listed congress
woman and aids, Trinidadians, Americans, but, by your account, there could
have been more Haitians.
You generously counted about 70 people, which means it actually was about
50 to 60 people, and when you take out you, yves, the presenters, their
families and friends, the pro activists, you end up wiht less than a handfull
of real interested Haitians. (period)

As for Haiti, when you have a team that can't win, even after several coaching

Get rid of YOU off the radio, replace with a new generation voice (can't

Here what I suggest. I suggest that Yves (Y.V.E.S) has no real following
and that after all the noise he and his guest made of the Cite Soleil "massacre"
only a handful of people were present. If you discount the usual "suspects"
(the professional activists) there were less than 5 "supporters."
I also suggest that Yves (YVES) stop his self importance and give the people
a voice on his show.
I also suggest that he stops those "tapes" of actual reports, that are from
only ONE source and sounds like the same reporter every week.
I also suggest that he determines whether he will make the show a variety
show or a news rhetoric. YVES is no Rush!!!
I suggest that he stops treating people like they are insignificant except
at Pledge Week.
Take a lesson for this site. Give the poeple a voice and you might learn

La dialectique des armes est une vacuité;

I think the real idiot is you. You are very jealous.Even the haters listen
to Yvres d'Haiti on Saturday night. That shows his popularity. He discusses
any issue that he deems necessary. And, his audience supports him. The supporters
of this illegitimate and criminal government of Latortue have their audience. It
is simply not Konbit Lakay. To be associated with Yvres is an honor.I can
care less if you or anyone else think I am Yvres or Jacques. I am a fan

Stan,
Obviously, you aren't familiar with this retard. He has no real agenda.
He is an idiot who finds himself in a position that he is not qualified
for. What I mean by that is, he inherited an act of benevolence on the part
of WPFW. He has no ethics, he has a sub-par intelligence for that office.
His real merit lies in his dedication and uncanny ability to talk nonsense
and insult a community. His is the quintessential figure for someone a with
a so-called education but dumb as a wilderbeast.
PS: He posts under many pseudos: Ayiti, Ayisyen, DP, Karen, Colette, many

Eve dAyiti last few shows have been about the "massacre" in Cite Soleil
by the UN. Last night was supposed to be the showing of the smoking gun,
"VIDEO TAPE."
Did anyone attend?? or should I ask, "did anyone besides the "usual suspects,"
attend?
And my question is, "now, what??" The UN has released a statement aknowledging
some casualties. What is the next group or topic that Eve and his so called
"activist" will embark on next?
When will he and his "guests" promote real solutions and dialogue?

TWISTING THE TRUTH ABOUT JACQUES ROCHE

TWISTING THE TRUTH ABOUT JACQUES ROCHE
Gerard Jean-Juste and Bill Quigley Caught in a Lie; Marguerite Laurent,
Amy Goodman and John Maxwell Are Accomplices
Jacques Roche in happier moments
Once again, the nefarious pro-Aristide forces are conspiring to misinform
the public about the macabre role Reverend Jean-Juste and his kidnapping
squads have played in these past few weeks' horrible events, including
the assassination of journalist Jacques Roche. It is particularly telling
that the pro-Aristide camp, caught in its plot to have Jacques Roche killed
simply for having been associated to the "Groupe des 184", would then
unleash a public relations campaign for the purpose of whitewashing their
authorship, moral if not physical, of the Jacques Roche murder and then
bizarrely associating themselves with Jacques Roche once they realized
the magnitude of the gaffe their goons had committed.
In this respect, the total incompetence of the current provisional authorities
explains why there has been no attempt to discredit this malicious campaign
and why Rev. Jean-Juste is now able to portray himself as a victim once
again for having committed the "crime" of attending his "cousin" Jacques
Roche's funeral. Let us now examine the sequence of events that have led
to the arrest of Jean-Juste and to the flurry of emails from Aristide
apologists trying to deflect the attention away from their involvement
in Jacques Roche's murder:
July 14, 2005
The body of journalist Jacques Roche, who had been kidnapped on July 10
is found in Delmas 4. Jacques Roche had been tortured before being executed:
his arms were broken, his tongue had been ripped out, and his body bore
marks of extreme corporal punishment. He was killed by several gun shots
in the mouth. [1] [2] Jacques Roche was not simply a dedicated journalist;
he was also a talented poet and a passionate lover of Haiti. He believed
in social justice and had militated for many changes, including the unconditional
cancellation of Haiti's foreign debt and the fight against the free zone
established unilaterally by Aristide in Maribahoux (North East.)
Jacques Roche's body found in Delmas 4
According to press reports, his kidnappers took issue with his role to
host a radio show about civil society, sponsored by the "Groupe des 184."
This led to their decision to assassinate him despite his family having
made a partial payment of $10,000 on the ransom they had requested. [3]
He had become, in the eyes of his kidnappers, an enemy of Jean-Bertrand
Aristide and of Lavalas and therefore had to be eliminated.
July 17, 2005
In one of her signature diatribes, lawyer Marguerite Laurent, a pro-Aristide
apologist and his chief defender in the United States, puts in context
the death of Jacques Roche and explains why it was understandable; she
says in essence that the current wave of kidnappings are in retribution
for the kidnapping of "democracy" when Jean-Bertrand Aristide left power.
She writes:
The kidnappings in Haiti for political and economic purposes began with
the
kidnapping of Democracy by the powerful Coup D’etat nations of the US,
Canada and France, intent on imposing privatization, neoliberalism in
Haiti,
no matter the will of the people, the nation nor its duly elected
representative.
Last Thursday, July 14, 2005, Jacques Roche, a well-known cultural and
sport
news reporter for Le Matin, and television host of a show on "civil society"
issues for Group of 184, who had been kidnapped on July 10, 2005, was
found
dead. His tortured and bullet ridden body was found still handcuffed,
Let's begin by questioning WHY Jacques Roche was killed? In sum, Roche's
death is the fruit of a poison tree that must first be uprooted before
justice can ring in Haiti. It's the fruit of an ongoing international
crime of kidnapping democracy begun with the kidnapping of President Aristide
from Haiti.
As a friend wrote to me today, "The handcuffs (left on Roches body) already
told us WHO did it. I can't imagine slum dwellers possessing handcuffs,
and
if they did, having enough to leave them on a dead body. We are dealing
with
really evil people." Moreover, according to an AHP news report "People
close
to the cultural journalist condemned his execution and declared that if
they
had received support from some sectors they didn’t name, to complete the
ransom, the victim’s life would have probably been saved....One of his
collaborators, Roudy Sanon, who was involved in the negotiations with
the
kidnappers, declared that it was his work colleagues who helped to get
the
10.000 dollars given to the kidnappers. He also deplored that the Police
General Direction did not help to get Jacques Roche’s release, despite
the
fact that it had enough clues to help, he said. "This authority of the
police is therefore responsible on this level of his death, Roudy Sanon
said
on a private radio station of the capital." [4]
In a few paragraphs, Marguerite Laurent manages to mangle the truth, turn
the events of Jacques Roche's death on their head, and turn his employers
into the ones responsible for his death all in one fell swoop:
Lie #1: Slum dwellers do not possess handcuffs.
Marguerite Laurent chooses to ignore that a large number of Cite Soley
criminals were enlisted in the last two Haitian National Police classes
under Aristide (at his request) and were let go after his departure because
of their shameful criminal records. In addition, a number of policemen
linked to Lavalas have been arrested recently for their involvement in
kidnappings and murders. It is not that difficult to figure where the
handcuffs might have come from. And it is possible to buy handcuffs in
Haiti today from private shops. Dany Toussaint, another murderer linked
to Lavalas until he split with Aristide, sold such goodies at his store
recently.
Lie #2: Jacques Roche did not receive support from some sectors that might
have saved him.
Jacques Roche's kidnapping was not about ransom. The kidnappers went though
the masquerade to make it appear as such. His political death had been
pre-ordained, and no amount of money would have saved him from his certain
execution. Let's remember one clear point: Jacques Roche was assassinated
for having collaborated with "Groupe des 184", not because his family
could not come up with the ransom. The vast majority of kidnappings in
Haiti have been settled for much less than $10,000. So to pretend that
his employers could have saved him simply by contributing money is a lie.
Lie #3 - The Haitian Police is responsible for his death.
Roudy Sanon, AHP and Marguerite Laurent should hang their heads in shame
for propagating such a lie. The police explained very clearly that they
had leads, but not enough information to quickly react to the murder.
[5] This was confirmed when they arrested Roger Etienne, one of Jacques
Roche's murderers, who explained that he was constantly being moved.
Beyond the obvious lies, Marguerite Laurent's obvious message, though
the words of a "friend", is that only the "murderous" regime of Latortue
could have killed Jacques Roche, but certainly not the "peaceful" gangs
that are terrorizing the slum dwellers she was talking about. Even more
ominous is the message, subsequently picked up by Gerard Jean-Juste, that
the "kidnapping" of Aristide on February 29, 2004, justifies the wave
of such crimes in Haiti today and that only his return will end the wave.
If that is the case, then isn't it a clear acknowledgement of WHO is responsible
for the kidnappings? After all, it is such a poisonous tree ... but who
planted it in the first place?
July 20, 2005
In an interview on Radio Kiskeya, Rev. Jean-Juste picks up on the theme
of Aristide's kidnapping as being the first instance of this crime. His
message: since our leader was the victim of a kidnapping, we Lavalas certainly
cannot be responsible for this type of crime. But he went on to state
that the end of the violence from below depends on the end of the violence
from above. [6]
What is then the violence from below that he is referring to? Isn't it
the kidnappings, murders and rapes that the pro-Lavalas gangs have been
perpetrating, not only on Haitian society as a whole but especially on
the residents of the slums in which they have taken residence? We should
be under no illusion that, despite the class warfare message that is being
spread by Marguerite Laurent and Gerard Jean-Juste, the majority of the
victims of violence of any sort in Haiti today are poor. And contrary
to what they would have us believe, the perpetrators for the most part
are the pro-Lavalas gangs that were armed and trained by Aristide and
his henchmen, like Paul Raymond, René Civil, Hermione Leonard, et al from
2001 until his departure.
As a side note, what is most disingenuous from Marguerite Laurent is her
systematic silence on one of the worst crimes perpetrated by gangs like
that of the late Dred Wilme's: rape. The principal victims of crimes in
Site Soley, Solino, Bel Air, Delmas 2, Grande Ravine, etc. are women (primarily
young) and even in some cases pre-pubescent girls who are preyed upon
by depraved gang members who have turned to a new form of bodily mutilation
to inflict further pain on their rape victims: the incrustation of parts
of plastic or metal in their penises. [7] This was the case, for example,
of Dred Wilme's lieutenant Emmanuel Coriolan (aka "Dom Laj") who underwent
"surgery" while in jail to have his penis augmented with bits of plastic
and metal. He had it done to better torture any female kidnapping victim
that his gang would seize.

Jacques Roche's funeral
Jacques Roche's funeral is marked by moving tributes from speakers from
all walks of life. But it will also be remembered for Rev. Jean-Juste's
audacious attempt to officiate at the ceremony - when he can be considered
as a moral author of Roche's murder - and the subsequent false statements
which have revealed his talent as a pathological liar and the unethical
lapses of a certain William Quigley, attorney-at-law.
Before the funeral, Jean-Juste had an interview with Amy Goodman of Democracy
Now! where he stated:
So right now, today I’m on my way to attend the funeral of Jacques Roche,
a prominent journalist who had been kidnapped and killed. And I'm going
to show myself because his parents are from my town, and at a certain
time, one of his relatives saved my life. I was being attacked by a mob,
and then Mrs. Roche came out, saw me, and get me off the gangs and sheltered
me at her house. So this is why I feel that I should be there regardless
that they keep accusing Lavalas people of participating in the killings.
[8]
What happened at the funeral? Rev. Jean-Juste and his attorney William
Quigley, decided to participate at the ceremony. Notwithstanding the gall
of Jean-Juste, the fact that he came dressed in full priest garb and had
every intention of officiating at the ceremony can only be interpreted
as an act of provocation or sheer folly or both. Soon after his arrival,
Jean-Juste is set upon by a group of incenses students (not 184 people
as falsely reported by Bill Quigley [9]) After a few minutes of mayhem,
Jean-Juste and Quigley are led away by a group of CIVPOL officers and
are then picked up by the Haitian police that take them to the Petionville
precinct. Jean-Juste will later be arrested, but not Quigley.
July 22, 2005
An article written by Bill Quigley and entitled "Haitian Priest Assaulted
by Mob at Funeral and Arrested for Murder " [10] is posted on www.commondreams.org.
Never mind the fact that Bill Quigley is not a journalist. Never mind
the fact that Bill Quigley is Jean-Juste's attorney. Why this "op-ed"
piece, at best, is posted as a news article is beyond me. However, what
is most striking is the number of lies and innuendos that Bill Quigley
manages to inject in such a short article:
1. Jean-Juste was beaten by 184 supporters.
2. Roche deserved to die because he worked with "the people calling themselves
the group of 184, who overthrew by force the democratically elected government
of President Aristide, the leader of the Lavalas party, in February 2004."
[11]
3. Jean-Juste is a cousin of Jacques Roche. In Quigley's words:
On Thursday July 21, 2005, Fr. Gerard Jean-Juste went to St. Pierre's
Catholic Church to be one of the priests participating in the funeral
of Haitian journalist Jacques Roche. Fr. Jean-Juste is a cousin of the
Roche family and members of the Roche family protected him from a mob
earlier in his life. He went to express spiritual comfort and reconciliation
to the family. [12]
Already, there is an obvious discrepancy between Jean-Juste and his attorney
on the exact relationship of Jean-Juste to Jacques Roche:
a) Jean-Juste: Roche's parents are from my town (Cavaillon)
b) Quigley: Jean-Juste is a cousin of Roche.
July 23, 2005
Jacques Roche's mother grieving
On Saturday, July 23, Jacques Roche's mother breaks her silence on Radio
Kiskeya to comment specifically on her so-called "relationship" to Rev.
Jean-Juste [13]. She refutes any kinship to the Reverend, thereby proving
that all of the comments made by Jean-Juste and Quigley were fabrications.
She specifically states that:
1. She has no relationship to Rev. Jean-Juste
2. She has never met Jean-Juste, neither now nor when he was a child.
2. While her husband was from Cavaillon, she is from Cap-haitien and has
never set foot in Cavaillon.
4. Therefore, she could not possibly have saved Jean-Juste from a mob
that attacked him and then sheltered him at her house when he was a child,
since she never lived in Cavaillon.
July 24, 2005
In his "Common Sense"column entitled "Extremism in defence of freedom
..." [14] , Jamaican journalist John Maxwell, an unabashed Aristide apologist,
writes the following:
Gerard Jean-Juste] was then arrested, charged with something that happened
in Haiti while he was in Miami, released, then beaten up when he attended
a funeral, re-arrested and thrown into prison, this time, allegedly, for
the murder of the journalist whose funeral he was attending.
In one cute sentence, John Maxwell has managed to take out of context
the meaning and importance of Jean-Juste's presence at the funeral of
Jacques Roche. More importantly, he has now conveyed to his unsuspecting
readers the incredible "injustice" meted out to the good Reverend. John
Maxwell, no lawyer he, conveniently forgets to explain to his readers
that there is such a thing in Haitian law as "accusation par la clameur
publique" [15] and that there are antecedents, given Jean-Juste's involvement
with the pro-Lavalas gangs that have been organizing these deadly kidnappings.
At least, Maxwell had the decency not to write about Jean-Juste's "close
family relationship" to Jacques Roche. And I am sure that his skilled
command of the English language (unlike mine) will carry in any discussion
about what he really meant. And I am doubly sure that the coterie of Aristide
friends that have formed the Dessalines-Boukman Society in Jamaica will
no doubt approve of Maxwell's journalistic (mis)carriage of justice.
One of the problems with all anglophone journalists, and with Marguerite
Laurent despite her Haitian ancestry and her work in Haiti, is that they
still do not have a good understanding (if at all) of the differences
between common law and Haitian law. It is high time they started learning
something positive to better defend their heroes.
Also, contrary to Maxwell's claim, Bill Quigley was not arrested. We must
wonder what Maxwell's sources are and whether he has a reliable network
of informants or whether he has decided to lower his journalistic standards
when it comes to news out of Haiti. If Maxwell did verify independently
the news that he received, he would not have included in his column what
is obviously false information, But then again, the end justifies the
means ...
In conclusion, the habitual liars and apologists have once again unmasked
themselves in protecting an individual who had no reason to attend the
funeral, nor any decency to stay away from the family of the man to whose
death he contributed, directly or indirectly. It is such a shame that
the Lavalas movement, which stood for justice and transparency, has been
overtaken by overzealous extremist who care not a wit about the Haitian
people. But who can blame them?

La dialectique des armes est une vacuité;

For Jacques: Your Death Will Not Go Unpunished
Raoul Peck, prizewinning filmmaker and former minister of culture, 2005-07-18
FOR JACQUES ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
We have just learned the death of our friend, poet, and companion of struggle,
journalist and Haitian
citizen savagely assassinated by the mercenaries of former president Aristide.
Ayibobo Jacques!
Your death will not remain unpunished.
Today we say a sound no to the assassins.
We say no to the rapists
We say no to those murderers disguised in the robe of Lavalas priest, formers
Lavalas deputies, in Lavalas
senators, in former Lavalas ministers.
We say no to these assassins disguised as a Florida lawyer, as American
congressmen, as American
lobbyists.
We say No to all those who have murdered you Jacques Roche.
The Haitian people need to know that these people are cowards
The Haitian people need to know who they really are.
We sent Aristide away; justice will hunt down all those who are still doing
his dirty deeds here at
home.
Justice will hunt down all the accomplices making believe they are pro-democracy
while they continue to
make money from drug trafficking, kidnapping and dirty business.
Justice will pursue the assassins strangling the poor in the slums of Belair,
Cite Soleil and Village Dieu.
They want us to believe that they are fighters
It's a lie!
They are just plain killers.
They want us to believe that they are political activists
It's a lie.
They are terrorists.
They want us to believe that they are bold
It's a lie
They are just cowards.
Cowards because they are attacking women, children, school teachers,
Because they are killing journalists, doctors and defenseless people.
You can tell the guy who is giving you daily orders
From where he is in South Africa, we will hunt him down too.
The files on him and his accomplices are piling up.
You are chanting that you want him back?
We do too.
Because we will bring him to justice.
The former priest always wanted us to believe that he was defending the
poor.
Now we know he was defending his own pockets.
The former priest always had a mouthful of beautiful words;
About the poor, about dignity, about progress.
The only poor people he knew was his family
Today they are all very rich.
The only dignity he was interested in
Were his own personal bourgeois ambitions
The only progress he knew
Was the progression of his wealth
Today we say enough
Today we say thieves, murderers and terrorists will no longer get away
Justice will prevail.
Jacques Roche
We will not forget you
We will not forget all those victims of the Lavalas regime.

seriously speaking i think you are wrong baby.you don't know crap, you are
only assuming, and beleiving in your own

one ever know.no body is monitering this guestbook beside the web master.
jcv, harold, bernard will only come here to promote their shows or to say
thanks & they are out.
that, my friend, is the only true pattern here.
they will not spend their time here to interact, chat or converse.the only
time they will respond is when they can put a face to the name, like the

this is why i don't like people like you who only come here to write some
nonsense on others.
at least when the promotors come here they can tell us of some activities
that we didn't know about, but when a fool like you come here to tarnish
the reputation of someone else, it's a disrespect to us the visitors of
this forum.
this is a (guest) book, some of you are making it the (haters) book.that's
not fair.jcv, heat, sassa, xpoze did not write anything negative.why are they
getting negative responses from you.
it seems that you are looking for other haters to join you.however most
of the other haters have learn their lessons here the hard way.
we the regulars here have learn to only put some weight on what is sign
by the people/business who are not affraid to enter their real names and
#s here.
your entries have no weight what so ever.
karen read back your entries and tell us what did we learn from them.
now let's go even further, let's say that you are right and that jcv was
sassa and or heat, what difference would it make to me,you and others? who
cares what are you going to do with your fish, fry it, boil it,eat it?
the only thing you are doing here is putting jcv back as this forum superstar.
by the way would you also think that i'm jcv, prt or smooches too since
i'm always speaking for them ?

By the way, how come they found the body of Jacques Roche
this morning and they already gave a university his name? Who is behind
this killing and why? They have already paid the amount of 10,000 dollars,
can they trace that money? They killed him and dumped his body in Delmas
4 in a popular neighborhood so that Radio Metropole, Radio Vision 2000,
the Group of 184 can point fingers at the "chimere lavalas". This one will
not fly.

Yes we condemn the death of Jacques Roche. But at the same time I do
not see the postings of the many who are being killed in Cite Soleil, in
BelAir by Minustha and Haitian police. Their lives are of the same value
as that of Jacques Roche. We have to start condemning the violence no matter
who is affected and no matter where it is coming from. The minute we start
thinking and acting that way, we will solve the problem.

So SAD- His family negociated with the kidnapers, paid them $10,000.00,
instead of releasing him, they took him to another location and now that...
I didn't know the man, his story is so touching. Anyway... thought you might
want to read it-
From Radio Metropole

To Coup D'etat- I thought I would remind you of the rules
of the site- Hopefully it will serve you next time!
Have a great weekend all! Be Safe!
Honor and Respect,
In Haitian culture, before entering a home, the visitor would yell, "onè,"
(honor), and the owner would respond, "respè" (respect). With that in mind,
we welcome you with respect to EchodHaiti.com's board. We ask that you honor
yourself and your culture with your comments. We graciously accept all comments
and criticisms, but we reserve the right to edit or delete those comments
that reflect poorly on ourselves and our culture.
Thank you
Loune

I guess when people write about jean-michel or gino on this site, others
are not suppose to read about it that's why my comments had been erased
by the site manager.this board is not fair to others if you cannot express
your opinion. I guess if you are not talking about politics or putting other
people down but not jean-michel or his brother you are fine as long as it's
someone else.

what's a shame, and what is sad is that more and more this guestbook and
the radio show konbit lakay are being used as the trash cans and / or the
latrines of this community.
anyone can come and dump.
