Sè m yo, Frè m yo,

Pandan pafen souwè ki sot
Ni lakay, ni nan 10e Depatman an
Kontinye anbonmen n isit la,
Minouche avè m remèsye n ak tout kè n
E swete n yon Bòn Ane 2006.

Se sèten, ou gen bèl rèv pou fanmi w ak pou peyi w.
Anpil nan bèl rèv Ayisyen genyen pou Ayiti,
Kouche sou kabann lopital men yo pa nan mòg.

Se vre, kidnaping 29 fevriye 2004 la klouwe
Manman Ayiti tèt anba sou yon kwa koudeta,

Sou flanm dife soufrans !

Ann souse mouèl listwa d Ayiti
Pou n vanse pi djanm, pi rèd,
Pou pi devan pi anfòm, pi bèl !

Avan Premye janvye 1804,
Kolon blan te renmen antere
Esklav tou vivan, tou kanpe :

Chyen souse, manje, devore tou vif.

Depi premye janvye 1804,

Eee!!! Bouch an bouch, youn di lòt :

Moun sivilize toujou gen Ayiti rekonesans.
Moun sivilize gen anpil respè pou Pèp Ayisyen.
Moun sivilize respekte premye Pèp nwa a
Ki premye chante fineray lesklavay.

Moun sivilize pa fè alèji ak
Jistis, restitisyon, reparasyon.

Depi egzil Tousen Louvèti,
Pase nan asasina papa Desalin,
Rive sou 34e koudeta sa a,
Toujou gen moun sivilize
Ki refize meprize Ayisyen.

Onè Respè pou nou!
Chapo ba pou ou menm
Ki deja fè anpil sakrifis pou sove
Diyite Nèg ak Nègès d Ayiti !

Ooo !! Ala damou Manman Ayiti damou
Pou tout pitit fi, pitit gason ki refize viv
Ak chenn nan pye, ou ak chenn nan sèvo !
Esklav mantal pa siye ak diyite.
Mikwòb esklavaj se pwazon diyite.

Lè Zanzèt nou yo t ap siyen batistè diyite sa a,
Popiplasyon an te anviwon 500.000 Ayisyen.

Jodia, nou gen 8 milyon sè ak frè lakay
Plis 2 milyon edmi k ap viv lòt bò dlo.
Nou konn kote n soti, nou konn kote n prale.

49 % nan nou sot nan mitan Lafrik, peyi Kongo
26,3 % nan nou sot nan peyi Benen
6,4 % nan nou sot nan peyi Senegal
5 % nan nou sot nan peyi Nijerya
4,5 % nan nou sot nan peyi Syera Leyòn
4,5 % nan nou sot nan peyi Gana
2,6 % nan nou sot nan Sidès Lafrik ou Mozanbik.
Donk, preske nou tout
Soti menm kote
Pou na l menm kote.
Nou sot nan zantray Lafrik
Pou na l nan zantray
Yon Delivrans Total Kapital.

Direksyon sa a te klè pou
Yon lavalas Ameriken Nwa
Ki tap toufe nan peyi Etazini
Anba imilyasyon esklavaj.

Sèl solisyon pou yo, se te pati
Al viv an Ayiti, nan sous Libète a.
Nan ane 1862, te deja genyen
Plis pase 2000 Ameriken nwa
Ki te vin pran refij Lakay,
Donk, nan sous Libète a.

Lè sa a, pat gen elikoptè
Ki tap lage bonm sou Site Solèy,
Jan sa te fèt 6 Jiyè 2005 la.

Lè sa a, pat gen yon Site Solèy
Fèmen nan kan konsantrasyon
Pou gro zam lagè devore, dechèpiye,
Pandan kochon ap manje kadav inosan.

Lè sa a, pat gen kolon pou vide dife lanmò sou
Belè, Solino,Lasalin, Matisan, Gran Ravin, Kafou,
Konsa pou yo menm, lavalas pòv, peyizan,
Malere, analfabèt pa moun tankou tout moun.

Devan miray apatey la, konplo a byen mare
Pou anpeche lavalas Pèp Ayisyen an
Patisipe nan eleksyon lib, onèt e demokratik .

Men, se byen konte mal kalkile

Pou fwomay eleksyon.

Liberasyon Pè Jan Juste, Sò Ann,
Premye Minis Yvon Neptune,
Minis Jocelerme Privert,
Ak tout lòt prizonye politik yo,
Se yon revandikasyon jis
Ki koule nan beton lalwa.

Lè inosan ap seche nan prizon
Pandan asasen kriminèl
Ap banbile libelibè,
Sa rele krim sou krim.

Demenm, se mete krim sou krim, sou krim,
Lè Ayiti klouwe tèt anba sou yon kwa koudeta,
Pandan defakto ap benyen nan ilegalite
Ak koripsyon jis nan kou rive nan zorèy.

Grès koripsyon sa a resi fè
Zòrèy pi long pase tèt.
Wi, fò n redi l:
Grès koripsyon sa a resi fè
Zòrèy pi long pase tèt.

Dapre filozofi gran paran Afriken nou yo,

BAXOLELA UKULWA KUNOBUGQILI.
Sa vle di :
« Pase pou Zansèt yo ret esklav,
Yo pito fè lapè antre yo
Pou goumen kont esklavaj ».

Nou menm tou, patizan lapè
Ki refize viv san diyite,
Fò n toujou sonje :

Yon Lavalas se yon Patriyòt,
Yon bon Lavalas se yon bon Patriyòt,
Lavalas se l’Union fait la force !

Si avantaj kòk se nan zepon l,
Avantaj Pèp entèlijan, se nan
Mobilizasyon manch long pou
Desitire koudeta pasifikman.

Lawouze koudeta fè banda
Tout tan solèy retou a poko leve.

Erezman, je solèy la louvri
E ni kè n, ni bra n toujou louvri
Pou n wè fasafas, Lakay.
Se va yon bèl fèt lanmou
Pou anfen, Ayiti viv an pè.

Nan menm chalè renmen sa a,
Minouche avè m anbrase nou tout
E swete n :

UNYAKA OMUHLE !
Sètadi : BON ANE !

UNYAKA OMUHLE !
BON ANE !

Miami Herald

JAILING DECRIED
Supporters of Rev. Gerard Jean-Juste converged Saturday on Downtown Miami to call for his release
by David Ovalle
dovalle@herald.com

Armed with hand-scrawled signs and haitian flags, a spirited crowd of at least 1,000 people marched the streets of downtown Miami on Saturday to protest the jailing in Haiti of Rev. Gerard Jean-Juste.

Activists called for the release of the popular priest, who they say has been jailed since July for political reasons by the U.S.-backed government of interim Prime Minister Gerard Latortue.

"He is in jail and he's never even seen a judge," cried Farah Juste, one of the rally'organizers. She is not related to the priest.

"They don't have anything against him."

The animated gathering is one of the strongest shows of support since Haitian and Human rights activists began a letter and e-mail writing campaign to free Jean-Juste after his arrest.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Miami, this week announced 40 members of the Congressional Black Caucus have signed another letter urging President Bush to secure Jean-Juste's release.

"The imprisonment of Jean-Juste and others casts a dark shadow on Haiti's government and will continue to burden the country's journey toward true democracy." he said in a statement.

Saturday's march was seen by many as a stepping up by his supporters of their efforts to pressure the haitian government into releasing Jean-Juste.

By 1p.m., protesters had gathered at the Torch of Friendship monument next to Bayside Marketplace. Small jitney buses lined Biscayne Boulevard to drop off the rally goers. Many wore powder blue T-shirts with the words "Free Father Gerard Jean-Juste". Others held signs up for the honking, passing cars.

"We want to cheer and make orselves loud and clear: free Father Jean-Juste now!" organizer Jack Lieberman said, exhorting the crowd.

Jean-Juste, a supporter of ousted Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, has been called a "prisoner of conscience" by Amnesty International, a designation normally reserved for victims of the worst abuses. He was first arrested in October 2004 in Port-au-Prince for allegedly using his church to plot the fall of the interim government. After 48 days, he was freed.

Jean-Juste was then arrested in July, in part for alleged complicity in the murder of a prominent Haitian journalist. Haitian government officials maintain Jean-Juste is being held legally as investigators prove the charges against him.

His supporters, who tried unsuccessfully to register him in Haiti's presidential race, say the government is worried he may play the role of a spoiler. The election is scheduled for January.

"They think by keeping him in jail, that will keep people from organizing for the election," said Jean Yves Point-du-Jour, a transportation engineer who flew in from Washington D.C. for Saturday's rally.

Said North Miami Beach City Councilman Phillipe Derose: "He's a great leader. We've never had a leader like Jean-Juste."

The march was scheduled for Saturday because it was International Human Rights Day, a day designated by the United Nations to highlight human rights abuses around the world.

Farah Juste said supporters would protest every Saturday at the Friendship Torch until the priest is released.

Lieberman said similar marches would be included in Martin Luther King Jr. Day parades in Liberty City and Fort lauderdale in January.

Hello Ti Neg,

I think $15 for a local band is very fair. What do you have to say about those parties advertised: $30, sometimes $40 in advance.

As far as Zanzibar Marie, ti ko'n poko bon assez. The place is too expensive to book on Saturday night. Remember, it's not easy to find a decent place suitable for us in this area.

The RAFRECHI crew will never be discouraged, because we know of what we've made of.

Com' on Marie - You forgot to put the(2) in front of the (8). Yes indeed, there was over 28 people inside the place. As far as delivering, the band keeps on improving.

Please considered that the low turned was due to:
1) The weather
2) The boxing fight
3) The previous weekend
3) Some people in Maryland don't like to party in DC, ect...

Hopefully, on December 24th, more people will come to party with us and the DJs.

And on December 31st, RAFRECHI we will back to pack up the place to the max on New Year's Eve... Bring your special someone. We will give away Hats, Tiaras, Horns, Blows, ect...

[reprint from last year]

Thanksgiving/Bay Mèsi

In America, immigrant families embrace Thanksgiving like no other American holiday, and Haitian-American families are no exceptions.

New Year's Day means much more to Haitians than to the rest of the world;
Martin Luther King Day, a holiday yet to be truly embraced, even by American society;
President's day? Come on!;
Easter? Maybe the only day, besides Christmas, that the church is full;
Mother's Day? Haitian Mothers will gladly accept a gift on the American Mother's Day, the second Sunday of May, but, it's the "Haitian Mother's Day," the last Sunday of May, that they expect to be worshiped;
Memorial Day? Not when the battles we fought in Savannah, Georgia are ignored, plus the greatest battle was fought on November 18, 1803, in Haiti;
Father's day? Not even fathers remember;
July 4th? As Public Enemy put it, "if you heard I was celebrating, that's a world wide lie!”
Labor Day? Too many of us still have to work;
Columbus Day? Don't get me started...
Halloween? Americans can't even agree on what exactly this day celebrates;
Veterans Day? America is involved politically or economically in many of the immigrant families' own homelands;
Christmas? Considering that the majority of people around the world are not Christians, many just celebrate the "holidays."

Immigrant families take Thanksgiving to heart, because we have so much to be thankful for, including living in America. Plus, any holiday that celebrates eating good food, seeing friends and family can't be all bad. Although we celebrate differently, we still can enjoy the day. In my family, there's no such thing as carving the turkey at the table. My mother carves, cuts up, spices, and marinates the turkey at the latest on the Tuesday before. Preparation of the diri ak pwa starts early in the day. The pen patat is hidden from all those who wish to attack it before the big meal. The "special occasion" five star Barbancourt is put out for those family members who've traveled far to come and share the meal.

Infinite hours are spent kissing infinite family members, "vin bo matant! al bo kouzin!" However, wherever two or more Haitians meet, a political "discussion" will begin, but with families it ends with remembrance of those still in Haiti. They live far from us, but they are very near to our hearts. We give thanks for those who stay behind and call Haiti "home." We thank America for giving us refuge when we needed to get away to regroup. We thank America for giving us a day when we can say thanks, mèsi, for what was, what is, and what is to be.

I did check out the konpadireck.com site and this is what I found.
More than 400 people visited the Trankill subject on the forum which is good for Trankill, because good news, bad news is still news, however only 3 people wrote negatives comments and you capitalize on that to show here on echodhaiti that Trankill had bad reviews.
That was uncall for.
Now since you were not being fair,I want to point out the the readers of echodhaiti that those three guys did not single Trankill out, they do the same thing to every artists, every groups that Konpadirek.com is trying to introduce.

Mach,Pidous and inkonu are now being warned by Konpadirek.com for their behavior.
Go back to the site now and read the posting od DJ Love on of the site moderator posted today.
It reads:I assume all the responsibility by calling the 3 guys out.You guys have been warn in public so you can't so you can't say you didn't know.If personal attack don't stop you will be banned by me after all virtual meeting with Jolie(the site owner) and Paz (another moderator). This is your 1st and last warning from me.

That is what is posted by Dj Love about the 3 SOB's writing negative comments on every body, not just Trankill.
It seems that those 3 individuals are out to destroy Konpadireck.com by playing dirty just like some of you here in DC/MD/are so disgusting that many people have shy away from our own site here Echodhaiti.

About TRANKILL on www.konpadirek.com

As per someone's request, I decided to give the song a listen. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Did you guys actually sit down and write that tune? What is its selling point exactly? Are you guys SURE you want to pursue this career path? Have you actually played this for friends and family members?

Leave it to Haitians to give me reasons to dislike the Internet. If it weren't for the Net, there's no way in HELL that such rubbish would ever find its way to my ears. I think you guys should send this song to Jacques Chirac. Playing it over the loudspeakers will definitely send the rioters running for cover. Hey, at least it's good for something, right?
INKONU

I just finished listening one of Trankil's tracks. I think I just wasted my bandwidth.

One thing that I must about you is that you do know how obfuscate matters with your long winded nonsensical irrelevant rhetorics. These smoke screens do not change the matter at hand; Sonson did not make the grade. Logging to some web site and viewing some pictures will not change that fact at all.
So let's agree to disagree. You obviously believe in your product. I won't argue with that because there are a great number of people who believe that Elvis and Tupac are still alive. I haven't heard the whole CD, so I am not going to put down the CD by listening to just one song.

The PR guy from Trankill does possess the gift of gab because it takes someone with such skills to promote unworthy products.
MACHIAVEL

the more i read about Trankill, the more turned OFF i get

The song sucks...nothing to report on...you gusy should STOP marketing yourself as a BENZ when your product is a Ford Escort...without an engine even...i am hoping that's not your best, otherewise forget the "rest"

no lyric...ok you guys explain the "voyé monté" phenomenon...but even voye monte carries a melody...the more infectious the more it sticks with the listener, the more pleasing the aural experience

Vocal...annoying to say the least
PI DOUS

So far you've proven to us that Trankill does not have any decent song writers, drum programmer and you're doing a very, very poor job acting as their PR personnel.
Pidous was very generous when he compared Trankill to an engineless Ford Escort when he should have compared it to the Ford Edsel, which was a major flop in Ford's automotive history.

The whole world knows that the American people were deceived about the Iraqi war. Do you think that the president will ever come out and admit he lied to us? Heck no! Therefore, it doesn't matter how honest and franck we are with you regarging your band, you will never come on the board and apologize to us for wasting our bandwidth.

On the positive side, there are million 28 million deaf people in America. Perhaps you can try to promote your music to them.

MACH

All of the above is very laudable and ambitious as an aspiration for a band inthe HMI...

My questions remains: What have got to "show" to merit our "business"...

until you can carry a night on your own (besides being in your home town where all your relative and friends are in attendance with free admission) you are not a "djazz"...to put it in other words you are an OPENING act, far from the main event. You play for the chairs...and you better start on time, cause the "SHOW" will go on when the main attraction is ready to play and you better not be delaying it...

For now, please be there by 9:30/10pm so you can vacate by 11:30

how do you plan on making it to the point where any one cares that you start on time, if no one notices you handle "business" differently, what would it matter?

I don't mean to discourage you, by all means be the revolutionary, be the trend setter...For now, let me put it to you bluntly, nobody cares about your "business" until you "show" them that you mean "business" as in a true KONPA contender...until then POZE/TRANKILLizé'w!!!

Part of an article:

ARISTIDE'S MONEY OFFSHORE
Originally: How Haiti Was Looted with the Help of Shell Companies and Secret Bank Accounts and U.S. Corporations.
Lucy Komisar, 2005-11-12
(Lucy Komisar is a New York journalist who since 1997 has written about offshore bank and corporate secrecy and money-laundering and how the offshore system enables international financial crime and corruption as well as drug and arms trafficking, corporate fraud, terrorism, dictatorship, and tax evasion. She is a founder and member of the steering committee of the Tax Justice Network, an international NGO that opposes offshore tax evasion by corporations and the wealthy.)
Add former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to the long list of corrupt and repressive officials who have used western banks and companies and offshore tax havens to plunder their countries and launder the stolen money.
Aristide and his associates looted government coffers, wrote checks to front companies for nonexistent purchases, padded invoices to get kickbacks from vendors, secretly owned companies that cheated Haiti of taxes, and laundered the money they stole through shell companies and secret bank accounts set up in the U.S. and the offshore tax havens of Turks and Caicos and the British Virgin Islands.
Aristide's corruption is documented by incorporation papers, copies of bank checks, bank transfer documents, invoices, company payment statements, and sworn testimony.
Nearly $20 million has been documented as stolen between 2001, when Aristide took office as president for the second time, and 2004, when he fled or was forced out of the country according to varying accounts.
An administrative commission of inquiry says that at the beginning of the chain of transfers, ex-director general of the government bank Rodnée Deschineau moved $19 million in government funds through the accounts of Aristide's governmental "Private Secretary Account." I have copies of twelve checks drawn on that account from 2001 to 2002 and cashed by the Bank of the Republic of Haiti for sums of $100,000 to $600,000, and totaling $4,662,000.
The information, including the private secretary checks, was collected by the Central Unit of Financial Information (UCREF), an agency set up, as in other countries in recent years, to investigate money laundering, and by the Administrative Commission on Inquiry (Commission d'Enquete Administrative) headed by former Haitian senator Paul Denis. Denis was charged by the current government with investigating corruption during the Aristide years. His report says Aristide and his collaborators transferred $17,489,415 abroad.
The Haiti investigators' mandate till now has been to look at events during Aristide's second term. However, the attorneys in the lawsuit have the option of using the discovery process to look into earlier practices, including during the 1990s when Aristide was in exile, when he continued his first term (1994 to 96), and when his close associate Rene Préval was president (1996 and 2001). This would likely considerably increase the amounts involved.
The documents are the basis of a Haitian government lawsuit filed in Miami Nov. 2, 2005, under the U.S. RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) statute. The defendants are listed at the end of this report. The Haitian government seeks to recoup the stolen money plus penalties allowed by the law. Allegations also appear in a New Jersey lawsuit filed by a former employee of IDT, a U.S. telecommunications company accused of paying kickbacks to Aristide.
Payoffs to Aristide or his associates were also made by drug traffickers, according to the testimony of half a dozen Haitians indicted by the U.S. for helping the transit of cocaine through Haiti to the United States.
Ira Kurzban, Aristide's Miami lawyer, declined to discuss any of the facts or allegations in this report.

Has the Black woman disqualified herself from marriage?
By Raymond Coleman

The common cry from the females in the so called “black community” is that there are no good men or there is a shortage of good men or all the good men are gone and the rest are in jail, on drugs or are gay.

I sense that most of those assertions however loosely based on reality contain the typical dose of female produced hysteria, irrationality, dementia, and the ever cascading chemical called estrogen. Emotion drives much of the ethos Black men have to deal with on a daily basis from his potential soul mate. I submit to you that while the Black man’s problems are quite obvious, so are the issues concerning what would otherwise be his assigned mate.

I don’t know if you have been up on current events, but the examples of finer Black womanhood are becoming more and more scarce. The Black woman has essentially disqualified herself for marriage. Yes, there are some very fine women out there with the temperament, attitude and respect for the institution of marriage, but I would also warn that finding, courting and ultimately selecting an African-American woman worthy of sharing your life and fortune with is going to be an even more difficult task.

Sure you can find one who will want to get married, but is she what you envision her to be? She wants Prince Charming (yes even the sistuhs want one), but is she willing to first of all see through your Dickies, sewn on name tag and dirty fingernails to allow you to treat her like that Princess? I would say no.

The Black woman has been co-opted and corrupted. She has erroneously signed on to White feminism and been duped into a false since of empowerment by her White captives. Now, I know what you are saying. What is wrong with a sister asserting herself and being strong and independent? On the surface nothing. Nothing if she wants to remain single that is.

I feel the sisters have not fully understood feminism and its goal. It has only one goal. That goal is a full usurpation of power from her White mate. The White feminist does not want equality with men. She wants power over men. By definition, this means war! As opposed to the White male legislators who day by day cave to the White woman by allowing them to vote (The 19th Amendment), destroy athletics (Title IX) and kill their children (Roe v. Wade), Black men must never allow the one person he can love and protect and honor become his worst nightmare and enemy.

Alas, it may be too late. The Black woman has become an angry, attitudinous, vindictive, hateful and often violent adversary to the one entity she should also love, honor and serve. The Black woman has allowed herself to become the caricature and stereotype she claims she is not. In response, the male is on war footing to defende himself from the incessant barrage of insults to his character and worth.

The Black woman IS Regina King in “Jerry McGuire”, “Ray” and “Miss Congeniality II.” She IS Gabrielle Union in “Deliver us from Eva.” She IS Angela Bassett in “Waiting to Exhale.” While they choose to call these women “strong” and “independent,” her mate-to-be is calling her a bitch of the highest order. Instead of taking note of the more attractive qualities of the woman who is for the time being stimulating his rods and cones, he is instead going through a process driven by fear and skepticism that is designed to disqualify her.

While it may appear to bode well that our women are becoming successful in law, medicine, the arts and politics to name a few, she is also becoming a world class unbearable bitch in the process. Why would any man in his right man marry a woman whose job it is to argue and win? I look at people like Julianne Malveux, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters and cannot for the life of me see how these women found spouses and have to further question, were they such evil and cantankerous beings before the “I dos” were exchanged.

Of course not all women are like these bottom draggers, but let’s take a look at the other examples of so called “finer womanhood” that is training our daughters. Let’s take the video vixens and female rappers for example. Am I not the only one who sees this strange witch’s brew of images and examples coming together to form not a loving submissive wife, but instead the freakin’ Bride of Frankenstein!

I love Black women, make no mistake about that, but I am concerned about what Black men who have already been beaten down are going to now have to endure at the hands of what had been his source of comfort. What had been his “ace-boon-coon” and “back-seater” in times of turmoil, strife and war. Where is the love?

I don’t know the answers, but I do know this. If the girl you meet on the street invites you to pick her up and take her out and the directions to her house don’t include something like “turn right at the crooked tree, go ‘bout fo’ chunkin’ rocks to the crick and holla” you may just end up with yet another nicely gift wrapped nightmare who can’t boil water, knows only one position and will cut you deep if you cross her.

Statement on Misinformation Attacks
November 2, 2005

“The ongoing misinformation attacks against me and the broad-based coalition of pro-democracy political parties under the banner of Tet Ansanm are meant to distract the world from the vicious cycle of violence, poverty and corruption that are strangling our beloved Haiti. We will not engage in political games to hide the fact that this cycle of violence and poverty has left Haitians unable to put food on the table. Instead, we will be a beacon of truth and shine the light on these injustices. We will talk about solutions to the myriad of challenges facing Haiti. As a nation, we are ready to move forward and start talking about how we will change the future of Haiti for the better. We are tired of the political insiders stealing from the mouths of children. Now it is time for us sweep out the failed politics and bring in strong new leadership that is not poisoned by the dirty clique of insider politics that has crippled our beautiful country.”

Good article:

Alpha Drenches Dominican Republic, Haiti
By ALFRED de MONTESQUIOU, AP

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (Oct. 24) - Tropical Storm Alpha pounded Haiti and the Dominican Republic with torrential rains and gusty winds Sunday, sending rivers crashing over their banks, washing away homes and tossing debris into the streets. At least one person was killed.

Alpha formed south of the Dominican Republic on Saturday, becoming the record-breaking 22nd named storm of the 2005 Atlantic season. It rumbled ashore near the southern Dominican town of Barahona with 50 mph winds, dousing the region with heavy showers.

The storm was later downgraded to a tropical depression after passing over the mountainous zone near the Dominican border with Haiti. It was expected to move into the open Atlantic by Monday after brushing the southeastern Bahamas.

In Haiti, at least 23 homes were washed away when a rain-swollen river overflowed its banks and flooded a neighborhood in the Port-au-Prince suburb of Carrefour, said Katleen Monpoint of Haiti's civil protection agency. A resident died after being electrocuted when their house was swept away, Monpoint said. She couldn't say if the victim was a man or a woman.

Residents of Carrefour said they called authorities for help but no one came.

"I've lost everything,'' said a sobbing Rolande Bruno as she pointed to the lone standing wall from her simple concrete home, which was dangling over a ravine."No one had warned us of anything, but we're not stupid. When the water started rising fast, we left for safety.''

Another river overflowed its banks in the southern town of Jacmel, flooding some areas and forcing an unknown number of residents into shelters, said civil protection director Maria Alta Jean-Baptiste.

"The population there is facing big difficulties. We have begun evacuations,'' she said.

In the capital, the airport was closed for several hours because of heavy rain, which turned main streets into muddy streams and tossed piles of trash and basketball-sized stones into the road. Cars and buses slowly forded through brown, axle-deep water on the main road to the south of the city.

At 11 p.m. EDT, the poorly defined center of the depression was about 100 miles north of Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas and moving toward the northwest at nearly 21 mph. Maximum sustained winds were nearly 35 mph.

Heavy rain was reported throughout the Dominican Republic and authorities had ordered the evacuation of some 30,000 people from areas prone to flooding, said Jose Luis German, a spokesman for the country's Emergency Operations Committee. About 1,000 people were in shelters.

Civil authorities with megaphones walked through low-lying neighborhoods of San Juan de Maguana - which was badly damaged by Hurricane George in 1998 - and urged people to leave.

Authorities reported moderate flooding in several low-lying communities in the southern Dominican Republic.

The system was not considered a threat to the United States, forecasters said.

Meteorologist Ignacio Feliz of the Dominican weather service said authorities were especially concerned since heavy rains - in part due to Hurricane Wilma - already have drenched the island in recent days. In Haiti, 12 people died from rains and flooding caused by Wilma.

The U.S. National Hurricane warned Alpha could bring 4-8 inches of rain across Hispaniola - and as much as 15 inches in some places - "with a strong likelihood of life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.''

Both nations are vulnerable, but the danger is particularly high in Haiti because of extensive deforestation and millions of people who live in flimsy homes on river banks and mountain sides.

The previous record of 21 named storms had stood since 1933. Alpha was the 22nd to reach tropical storm strength this year, and the season doesn't end until Nov. 30.

Associated Press writer Jose P. Monegro contributed to this report from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Chronique musicale #84

While everyone had been busy talking about the great Orchestre Tropicana and the most recent release of its double CD celebrating its 40th Anniversary, we seem to have somewhat been neglecting this other giant from the North, Orchestre Septentrional, la Boule de feu internationale. Yes, Septen is alive and well, and there is no better testimony to that than its most recent release: L’Orchestre Septentrional, Septen un jour-Septen toujours- 1948-2004. That is 56 years of quality entertainment, a unique feat!

If anyone thought Septen was going to fold quietly, well think again. Ever since I got the album, I have never being tired of listening to it. You are in for a treat !. With a solid brass section , excellent rhythm, pretty melodies, the band really pours it on with each tune.

The introductory tune, Vanessa is quite entertaining, with a tremendous brass sound and rich voices. I invite you to follow closely the play of the drummer who does an excellent job of supporting each song with great timing and nuances. I also quite enjoyed the play of the keyboardist who, without being flashy, has some very pretty lines throughout the CD. Listen also to the play of the conga player. Do not expect your typical konpa beat, absolutely not. It is this bland of modern and traditional sound which is so admiring in a group like Septentrional which has been able to come up with a nice and entertaining mix of music. No wonder young as old have a tremendous time dancing Septentrional. The same can be said of Tropicana by the way.

There is something for everyone on this CD and for me in particular, I found something that has become too rare with Haitian bands: they do not compose slow songs anymore, boleros as we say in Haiti. But would you believe there are two such songs on the CD! Tune No. 5, Mon cher Papa, a "méringue douce" and a very nice tribute to the father, something rather rare, should I say, in Haitian music; and Tune No. 7, Demen, a most beautiful and romantic melody.

I think this recent release from Orchestre Septentrional is one of the best by this band in some years: it is tremendously entertaining; the mixing is very good; the lyrics are meaningful and the band shows a lot of versatility.

I was trying to decide about which song would be my favorite, but I find it difficult too choose. The truth is that each one of the songs stands on its own and I wonder why the CD did not get more airplay and publicity. That is unfortunately, but one thing you can do to remedy this situation is to hurry to buy your copy; listen to it and you will agree with me that it is an excellent piece of work.

Serge Bellegarde – Help fight Haitian CDs piracy, it is bad for everyone.

It's been at least a year since my last visit to this site, and at that time I thought this site was very well put together, and very informative. There is always something happening on echodhaiti.com.
Here it is a year later, I am even more amazed, and going through the guess book I see a few names that I recognize.
I guess this site has made itself a permanent fixture in a lot of people’s lives.
Much respect, and continued success!!
I won't let a year go by without visiting again.

Apparent Prezidan Baker’s speech at Fund Raiser in Miami on October 14th 2005

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I was born on the 3rd of June of 1955 in Bourdon in Haiti. I was born into a family that instilled in me a respect for traditions, a sense of dignity and pride. I was taught love of country, discipline, and a respect of others. I am a simple man and I have learned to appreciate effort and hard work as well as tolerance.

I am first and foremost a farmer, and I worked over 10 years with Haitian farmers. I am an industrialist and I have worked in the manufacturing industry.

Since the age of 18 I have been interested in politics and for the past five years, I have been fighting within the civil society. I was also a member of several professional and business associations and I know the problems of the country.

My government will be a government of order and discipline. It will be an open and inclusive government. We will invite everyone to participate in the rebuilding of this new country of ours. We want a modern Haiti. A Haiti that grows and prospers. A Haiti defined by solidarity, tolerance, and respect of individual liberty. Where security and stability will reign. With security and stability my government will be able to provide more jobs and work for everyone. With security and stability Haiti will be able to attract investment and that will open the way for us to prosper.

The time has come to stop the division in our country. All Haitians must come together to put Haiti back on track. We must strive for Order, Discipline and Work! Everything needs attention. Everyone must participate in our new Haiti--youth, women, and professionals from within and outside the country. We need your help.

Order: I have traveled to 6 regions throughout the country. Everyone I met has the same concern: Haiti needs to regain its pride and dignity. We want to establish a government that understands that it needs to be at the service of its people and tax payers.

Discipline: Laws are to be followed and administered judiciously. I will make judiciary reform a priority.

Work: It is imperative that we strengthen the agricultural and private sectors. We will provide access to capital. We will create a program to develop all of our infrastructure—we need roads, bridges, ports, electricity, telecommunications and potable water. These big infrastructural projects will create jobs and they will contribute to the decentralization of government services and economic activity. The benefit will be better communication, more homes, more access to the countryside.

My vision is to set in motion reforms. To go back to the real role of the President as outlined in the constitution. I want to rebuild the institutions of the state. I want to allow honest and patriotic government workers and officials to develop and to take pride in their work.

Second speech (ending statement)

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Order and discipline are key. The Haitian state exists because of the Haitian people. We must be at the service of the people. We must create equal opportunities for everyone. We must instill a work ethic. No special treatment. Nou pa nan pas pouki!

We want a new Haiti where the majority of Haitians the youth, women and farmers will be proud. Where justice, education and health for all prevail.

There are many challenges in developing Haiti. I do not have all of the answers. I will surround myself with experts and community leaders who are as committed as I am to a new Haiti. My logo is a bus. A bus is always moving and always bringing new people on board. The driver is a leader, but he must pay close attention to where the passengers want to go or his bus will be empty. I am a good driver and I am a good listener. I’m inviting you to get on my bus.

I really need your help. I need your talents and your work ethic. I need you to spread the word. I can’t do this alone. No one can do this alone. We are one people who have a vision for our country.

But we have to be candid. Haiti is poor. Haiti is dying. Haiti is all of the negative things you hear. But, and this is an important but, Haitians are I am a good listener.

But, and this is an important but, Haitians are not all the negative things you hear. Haitians have an enduring spirit and are an optimistic people. How do I know? I know because if we were not optimistic, we would be dead. If we were not optimistic there would not be this cry for reform.

More than 200 years ago we stood up and fought for our freedom. We need to stand up again. We need to fight for our freedom. Economic freedom. Freedom of speech and freedom to make a living. I am standing here before you ready to fight. I am standing here before you ready to make a sacrifice. I am standing here before you asking you to help me. Are you going to stand up or are you going to keep sitting, waiting for someone to make the first move? Stand with me. Fight with me. Honor the memory of the great independence leaders of Haiti. Kampe pa chita.

Simeus Fe fo papier - Read more- My Gosh-
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti Some election officials say a Texas businessman who's seeking to run for president of his native Haiti could face criminal charges.

Allegations have been raised that Dumarsais Simeus, who owns a food services company in Mansfield, made false claims when he filed candidacy papers.

Simeus today said he's very surprised and disappointed by these "maneuvers."

Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council has submitted a criminal complaint alleging Simeus falsely claimed to have met residency, citizenship and property requirements.

The charges carry a potential sentence of three to five years in prison, but Haiti's chief prosecutor said he had not decided whether to pursue the case.

Simeus says he'll continue to seek the presidency in the first elections since a violent rebellion forced President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to flee in early 2004.

O Michaëlle Jean, I want to lick your boots

You and your predecessor are both from a small l-liberal and progressive intellectual milieu. As little as a generation ago, the attitude within this milieu to institutions like the Governor-General would have been overwhelmingly negative. Now something has changed: feudalism is becoming chic, postmodern, multicultural.

>by Stan Hister
October 13, 2005

Your Excellency the Right Honorable Mme. Michaëlle Jean: I just want to say that it is so cool to have you as our Governor-General!

Like John Ibbitson in The Globe and Mail, Andrew Coyne in the National Post and countless other gushers of purple prose in the media punditry, I am so goddamn proud that when it comes to choosing a local stand-in for our dynastic monarch, we only go for the best.

You are such an inspiration to all us colonial plebs, Your Excellency. Just looking at you, it's so obvious why you were chosen. Of course, it had nothing to do with your pretty face or politically correct skin tone. To even suggest such a thing would be sexist and racist, to say nothing of a terrible breach of vice-regal decorum.

Now it is true that there are some deeply cynical folks in Ottawa who would stoop to anything for political advantage, as the Mulroney tapes have so recently reminded us. But not Paul Martin surely. Cynical, manipulative — how could anyone accuse him of being that? I'm sure the idea that you would be a useful “token” never crossed his mind.

No, Your Excellency, it is not the outer shell but the inner person that makes you special. You are such a wonderful role model, as you yourself keep telling us. In your installation speech — which Andrew Coyne breathlessly called a “siren song of freedom” — you ever so modestly held out your own life as “a lesson in learning to be free.” You are the personification of the Canadian Dream, you are “the becoming of Canada,” as John Ibbitson put it so wonderfully well. It is virtually a patriotic duty to fall in love with you.

Like everyone else, I was struck by the story of your family's flight from political persecution in Haiti back in the Sixties. Alas, as we all know, Haiti is still very much in the grip f political oppression and its terrible poverty is the worst of any country in the Western hemisphere. Yet, apart from furnishing a backdrop to your personal “siren song of freedom,” you made only a passing mention of the plight of your native land.

American can run for Haitian presidency

Haiti's highest court unanimously ruled that a Haitian-born U.S. citizen can run against 33 others for president.

PORT-AU-PRINCE - (AP)A Haitian-born U.S. businessman will be allowed to run for president, Haiti's highest court decided Tuesday, apparently overruling a ban by electoral officials.

Chief clerk Andre Bignon said the Supreme Court's five judges unanimously ruled in favor of Dumarsais Siméus, wealthy owner of a food services company in Mansfield, Texas.

The provisional Electoral Council had ruled that he could not run because he is a U.S. citizen.

But Bignon said the court was motivated by the fact that the electoral council had not produced documents to prove Siméus had given up his Haitian citizenship.

''The court has just ruled that Dumarsais Siméus can be a candidate in the upcoming elections,'' Bignon said.

There was no immediate response from the Electoral Council.

Siméus said his candidacy would mark a turning point for the new role that Haitians abroad should play in Haiti's politics.

''It's not a personal victory, it's a victory for the Haitian people,'' Siméus told The Associated Press by telephone.

``This victory showed that we will break the spine of the status quo that has done nothing for this country in over 200 years.'' The elections will be the first since a February 2004 revolt toppled President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the first democratically elected president in the Caribbean country that has suffered decades of civilian and military dictatorships and coups. Haiti became the world's first black republic when a slave rebellion forced independence from France in 1804.

Siméus, 65, would compete against 33 other candidates and is not considered among top runners.

Presidential and legislative elections were scheduled Nov. 20, but elections officials have said preparations are behind schedule and the vote likely will be postponed for up to a month.

Like many artists I chose to give "Agimal" (the artist) to the public and I reserve the right to keep(JCV)my private life for friends and family, and I hope that you will help me in keeping it that way. There is no need to put my C.V here.
Agimal is the man that you and the public see on the carnival float,at the parties and behind the mic of Trankill etc...
Mr. J.C Vivens is a complete different person that very few people really know,he is a father,a husband,a family man,a counsellor to more than 200 people,a professional.
You need to understand that "Agimal"(just like Trankill and Haiti à Suivre)is a product of JCV ,and that JCV is not a product of Agimal.
No more answers to personal questions.
I will only come here to talk show biz.

{let's give them something to talk about} is a strategy used by holywood stars whenever they feel that their rating is getting low.
love them - hate them - hate to love them or love to hate them will play in their favor down the line.
that's the life and the game plan of all superstars.
the man agimal is and has been the news here in washington.
as long as he is the subject of your daily conversation and here on echo,on the radio,on the news papers,on the news letters,on your phone,at your dinner table, your mail and your e-mail,he will be a real superstar(or your superstar for real)whether you like it or not.

Therefore from a business stand point and as a marketing strategy I'm promoting Trankill
as a Washington D.C based band living the room for Rafrechi to go anywhere to promote their album as a Maryland based band. On radio Ibo I did talk about Rafrechi of Maryland and Majik Konpa of Michigan as new bands doing good in promoting our music in those states.
Do you think that if Joe Gibbs, the coach of the Redskins, was doing an interview about the Skins,he would say that there are two football teams in Wasington D.C because the Ravens are in Maryland.
Just answer that question.
The Redskin home-stadium is in Landover Maryland, but THEY represent Washington D.C while the Ravens represent Maryland.

I actually didn't want to get into a Echo classic battle, but what de hell!!
Agimal, I have no issues with you and your bizniss. Nahima pitched you what baseball people might call "a meatball." Meaning, a slow ball right over the plate so you could knock it out of the park (if youknowhatimean)
Nahima, he/she went a bit over the top on hte praising of the site (basic site)and then asked to elaborate on your "book" (meatball). As an umpire, as shook my head and said that he/she should "have head examined"

now, I'm a hater and so on... so, I came back a counter punched. Bro, get off the high horse and do your bizniss. Remember, All bizniss aint legal and all bizniss aint ethical. Microsoft can be criticized so can JCV Productions.
epi dat sit.

Just to let you know that I will not be going on a stupid battle here on echo with any evil person that I can't put a face to the name.
I can discuss certain things here on echo, but as a business man I will not discuss anything with people like Stan that will not generate me any money and will only satisfy his malicious behavior and curiosity.
You may push the button as much as you like, you will not get a green light.
I will not post here what you don't need to know. EPI THAT'S IT.
I did not do a website for the fun of it,it's not a joke, people are joinning the club.On my next live shows with Léon Dimanche on October 23,at Los Arrieros you'll see some of them.
This is not Trankillmusic.FUN
It's trankillmusic.COM.

However once again I'm going to prove to this hater too that I'm not Nahima.
Nahima's 1st entry was posted at 8:56 am on Friday the 30th of September, my flight from Reagan Airport left Washington at 7am the same day.
No hard feeling Stan and other haters,I already know that I'm above you all,but on 9/30/05 AT 8:56am,I was 38.000 feet above you Guys.
Nahima's second entry was posted on Saturday October the 1st at 11:14 am at that time I was live in P-AU-P on "Radio Ibo" with Acelsio the singer of the band "Show Off" and his manager with the show host Josias Pierre on a show on Haitian music video and the history of the Haitian music in Washington D.C.

I have that show on DVD and on VHS - Stan and other haters I'll be glad to sell you a copy.
If we were in court today and my lawyers present these concrete evidences, and you have only your assumptions - ou tap pèdi pou nèg sott kap palé fatras.
Every time someone write something positive about me, the haters are quick to say that it's me writing on another name.

Let me say it one more time: "Mwen pa pè nou"

STAN can you see how close your name is to SATAN

Every time you tap on the keyboard to write something negative about me "PITIT BONDYE SA",ask your self if YOU are or are not doing the DEVIL'S work.
I'm only praying that you can turn all that hate into LOVE.

To Nahima I say thank you for visiting the Trankill website.
To Stan and all the other haters out there,I like to say while you were writing your negative comments on echo I was in Haiti openning a new school in Meyer Jacmel.
In 2003 when my sisters & I went to Haiti we realized that many kids were travelling from Cayes Jacmel,Marigot, and Meyer to the city of Jacmel pour recevoir le pain de l'instruction.Anpil ti moune sa yo sé maché yo maché pou yal lékol nan ville Jacmel.
Since last year,we've been building a school in Meyer, and the project was finally ready this month. We had a late start since school now open in Haiti in September, but better late than never. We wanted everything to be perfect,or at least close to it. We wanted to hire qualified people, from the best teachers to the servants.
A special mass was made in the church St Therese on Sunday October the 2nd,and our school CENTRE D'ETUDES CLASSIQUES DE MEYER officially open on Monday October the 3rd.
It's an all brick beautiful two story building. If you wish to see the project I 'll be glad to show you a video and you will see me and my sister Doctor Solanges Vivens live in Meyer Jacmel at the openning ceremony of our school. Father Domond and Father Bertrand did the blessing, and my sister Solanges cut the ribbon.
Stan, this is only the beginning,it's not too late for you and others to join me and the Vivens Family in this wonderful job that we are doing for the children of Haiti.
We spent our money up front to build something that will help the future of thousand of litlle Haitians, and employement to many.
You also need to know that my sister Mirlène who is now living in Meyer was a school administrator in Canada in the 1970's,she worked in Haiti at L'Institue Haitiano Americain in the 1980's,she was in the 1990's the Director of VMT Education Center (OUR NURSING SCHOOL) here in Washington D.C.
Since she returned to Haiti, she has been working very hard in educating young minds. She was the administrator of L'Université de Notre Dame in Jacmel until this past June. Even now that she has her own ichool she is still Teaching at the university. She also has an organization called Petits Artists de Meyer(PAM)among other things that she is doing in Haiti.
I went to Meyer for the 1st time of my life in 2002 to visit my sister. In 2003 I took some friends with me to the Jacmel carnival to have fun. In October 2003 I went back to Meyer with my sisters Dr.Solanges Vivens and Antonine Vivens Larochelle who has a Master Degree in Education to see how we can help.
I'm challenging you and the other haters to turn all that HATE that you like to share here on echo into LOVE by being the sponsor (PARRAIN/MARRAINE)of one of our kids.
My # is (240)463-7196 or send me an e-mail so I can tell you how YOU TOO can help.
---------------------------------------------
Talking about Trankill
Music is in my blood - I do it because I love doing it,but it's not the center of my life. It' not the source of my income,so to me it's more like a hobby.
Although I don't take music as a career,I still would like to see my music projects go beyond the perimeters of the Washington D.C area.
For that matter I hire a P.R person in Haiti, and let me tell you that she is doing a wonderful job.
During my stay in Haiti,I did a series of interviews on radio Solidarité,radio Ibo,Radio Caraibes,Télé National,Télémax,Ticket Magazine(Le Nouveliste).
In those interviews I talk about the History of Haitian music in Washington, the Haitian community, Trankill and the book that I'm writing on Konpa Music.

Que la paix soit avec vous.
